Date: July 20th, 2018 6:05 PM Author: slippery philosopher-king what's so crazy about this is the likelihood being absurdly low for multiple papers - supposedly with different editors - to publish identical letters (with different authors) on the same day. astroturfing is one thing, but this would involve collusion and complicity from multiple newspapers to publish this same letter on the same day. if an outside group were to write this letter and simply send it in, these papers would certainly not have published it the same day. if these newspapers were paid to publish these letters then that calls the integrity of the entire paper into question. and still, this would require coordination between the payor and the newspapers. that leaves us with the logical conclusion that these papers were told to publish this either because the editors got together and decided we're going to write a letter and we'll all publish it or they're all owned by the same entity and were told to publish it, effectively undermining the editor's authority. sad! Date: July 20th, 2018 7:36 PM Author: Misanthropic slate den multi-billionaire this happens in ways i think most people would not even realize. if you read WSJ article comments during whatever big crisis is bad for trump, you will see a lot of very "lib"-sounding comments upvoted to the top, using rhetoric and lines basically stolen from NYT/WaPo/CNN writers and commentariat. these are not just lib opinions, they have the lib way of writing, like "This. Is. Not. Okay." and "Enough is enough. It is time to put an end to 45." really sanctimonious, righteous, etc.
these same types of comments fall off one, two days later - the normal commenters and opinions get upvoted as the comment section returns to normal. note that this does not happen in the reverse - i also read the NYT comment sections and the lib lines are always at the top no matter what is going on (thought the NYT comment section is occasionally anti-immigration and affirmative action, which is funny)
i think this kind of deception should be a criminal offense for the organizations sponsoring it |
