I doubt canelo is so unimpressed with gggs power that he'll let his hands go. One thing I saw in their first fight was ggg taking Canelos best clean flush power punches, and it was indeed canelo imho who landed more spectacular blows. Of the four most awe inspiring punches landed, all were by canelo. I think canelo faught a beautifully disciplined fight their first contest, and I do not expect him to let his hands go in their second because what made him look so good on their first was how few power shots he actually took. Look, canelo hit ggg with his best punches, but ggg has not yet landed his on the ginger. |

By the time I was done scoring I saw the fight 7-5 for ggg. It was clear that Canelos ring generalship scored him points in one judges eyes, but most of us saw a ginger on his bike for the most part. |

It's a fair question to ask and one that seems to polarize fans of boxing. Personally I admire Floyd's style of fighting and it seems Canelo has adopted it.
I believe Canelo faught in large measure simply not to lose and the only other thing that saved him besides his strong game planning and execution was the sound of the bell at the end of the twelfth. I look at it this way, if GGG stood in and took Canelo's best shots while Canelo did all in his power to avoid taking GGG's, and GGG was the fresher man throughout, who would you put your money on if these two were fighting on the street?
GGG obviously, because he can pretty much walk through the other guy's power whereas the other guy must burn energy skating backwards for long stretches while he attends carefully awaiting some cherry safe opening through which to jump and unload a few choreographed combinations before hastily retreating. Hey it worked for Leonard against Duran but very few boxing purists hold it against Duran that he said "fuck it, this is not why I lace up the gloves."
If Tim Ferris can win a sumo wrestling title by cleverly exploiting the rules of the sport, and call himself a sumo champion, and Asians can grind harder against standardized tests and allegedly game their ways into the Ivies, then (a clean) Canelo may prevail over GGG by skillfully evading and cleverly pot shotting him all night in the ring, but don't claim Canelo won more than 7 rounds in their first fight and expect to be taken seriously. |

Yup. He is too young for another L. But he couldn't dodge the fight because GGG was not going to move up and was taunting him. And it was a big payday, for both I guess. And because since he's got serious power, he has a chance against anyone roughly his size, so he wasn't an overwhelming underdog and if he won he'd be a hero. |
