Local newspaper City Press reports two game farms in the northern province of Limpopo are the first to be targeted for unilateral seizure after negotiations with the owners to purchase the properties stalled.

While the government says it intends to pay, owners Akkerland Boerdery wanted 200 million rand ($18.7 million) for the land — they’re being offered just 20 million rand ($1.87 million).

“Notice is hereby given that a terrain inspection will be held on the farms on April 5, 2018 at 10am in order to conduct an audit of the assets and a handover of the farm’s keys to the state,” a letter sent to the owners earlier this year said.

Akkerland Boerdery obtained an urgent injunction to prevent eviction until a court had ruled on the issue, but the Department of Rural Development and Land Affairs is opposing the application.

“What makes the Akkerland case unique is that they apparently were not given the opportunity to first dispute the claim in court, as the law requires,” AgriSA union spokeswoman Annelize Crosby told the paper.

On the ANC's left is the EFF party. Basically a bunch of mugabe-like communists. ANC has been losing seats to the DA and EFF. Basically, poor blacks see the ANC as a bunch of corrupt bullshit artists who work with rich white people to screw them over. They see the pace of land reform (gov buying land from white farmers) as far too slow. Whites, coloreds, professional blacks see the ANC as a corrupt and inept party that waves the bloody shirt and plays the race card to trick poor black dumbs and stay in power. So the ANC is using the amendment to the constitution to steal thunder from the EFF and staunch their potential losses. It's doubtful that the ANC would "kill the goose..." by rapidly implementing the confiscation and the ploy is more likely just more bs to stay in power.

every day these people stay in SA is risking their lives and the lives of their wives and children. i don't have kids of my own, but i would have picked up and left SA years and years ago with zero hesitation if i had a family. continuing to stay there seems utterly insane and risking your loved ones' lives - a hard life somewhere else beats your wife and daughters getting raped and murdered

The most successful and shrewd operators have become much more nimble by purchasing white-owned land over the last two decades, improving and selling the properties on a 3 to 5 year cycle in a US-private equity model to similar classes of buyers, but these are not common and the strategy is not sustainable.
