Mine is divided into:
Poetry
Philosophy
History + Politics
Science + Technology
Religion
Fiction (too many, so my favorites go on the primary shelf with the above, and the rest are in random order on a separate shelf)
edit: also I have some "show" books like my Oxford complete works of Shakespeare, an illustrated edition of The Hobbit, and The Book of Kells that are on top of the bookcase

Agency & Biz Orgs, Admin, Appellate, Civil Procedure, Complex Civ Pro, Civil Rights, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Crim, etc.
Separate areas for green and red hornbooks and anything else that's a large number of visually identical books.
