i'm not going to try to impart my crazy fringe shit (deus vult, the jesuits are in a state of heresy, etc.), but plan on going to mass every week, conservative catholic school, etc. the biggest question, i'd guess, is how to talk to your kids about the problems of modernity--if you try to shelter them, they might flip out and rebel the second they leave home; but if you go too hardcore (e.g. telling your kids that trannies are mentally ill, but deserve our pity and compassion),you're at the same risk. real goldilocks shit from what i'm imagining, childrearing

Yes, they will be raised in the church, so that if they are inclined to be godmos, they have the background and tools to thrive.
But I’m not going to hide that their father is agnostic.

One is a public figure I read about somewhat recently, though I can't remember who.
That story stood out to me because of a former co-worker who married a blond woman who I was shocked to find out went with her father's religion. Who knows, maybe she is Ukrainian.
By the way, Justice Breyer's daughter is an Episcopal priest (or whatever).
I do agree the odds are in favor of them becoming Xtian or atheist. But I would disagree with 100%.

No, I'm saying I personally find it insane. Then again, I think Judaism is an objectively awful religion. The religion is basically "we're waiting for the Messiah to come so we can be the bosses of everyone but in the meantime we have to follow a bunch of pointless rules unless we can find a loophole to trick God." The culture is even worse. At least Christianity is a nice story about hope and salvation and sacrifice for the greater good and all that with a nice, inclusive culture.
Russians/E. Euros immigrants - yeah, a lot Jews around, but the definition of what being a Jew is is very different and many end up becoming Christian or they are nothing and their children will be Christian.
"Also, I can think of Jamie Dimon who married a jew and he is Greek Orthodox. No idea what his kids practice though."
I read an article once upon a time that in mixed marriages the kids are overwhelmingly Christian.

I'm surprised it's that low, given how even non-believing jews can be so tribalistic.
I grew up in the midwest and was shocked when one of my jew friends, who loved to joke about bombing Iran, said he was a jew atheist. That may make perfect sense to a New Yorker, but my brain nearly melted down when he said that.
Then again, he did date a black chick in grad school. I gonna guess she wasn't jewish.
I also remember listening to Howard Stern who had Debbie Gibson on. Her jewish ex-boyfriend was some semi-star who Howard brought on during the interview. She said she turned down his proposal because he insisted she convert (remember, she is a pretty religious evangelical). She was like "Why do all these jewish guys insist you convert?!"

"I'm surprised it's that low, given how even non-believing jews can be so tribalistic."
1. I assume the most tribalistic are going to avoid marrying outside the tribe. Your example below goes to my point.
2. They believe it is passed down by the maternal line, so all the guys marrying non-Jewish women would technically have to get their kids to convert. Good luck with that. Meanwhile, if they go to church they will be accepted with open arms. So that eliminates 50% right away. Assuming that it split 50-50 among marriages with Jewish women and non-Jewish men, Jews would get 25% of total kids. They got 19%, despite a bunch of shit working against them. Honestly, they did better than expected.

I think you are cherry picking aspects of either religion to suit your preference for christianity and distaste for judaism.
using your description of judaism you could also describe christianity as "we're waiting for the messiah to return so we can avoid being tortured by Satan for eternity in hell! In the meantime we need to go to church every sunday and punish ourselves for impure thoughts."
I think to the extent my kids identify with 1 religion it will almost certainly be christianity. my wife and her family are more religious than mine, and why choose to be part of a minority culture if you don't have to?

That isn't what Christianity actually believes though. What I wrote is actually core belief for Judaism. A more similar statement would be believing that Jesus died for your sins and that belief in Christ is essential to one's salvation.

It is not what Christians believe. You wrote ""we're waiting for the messiah to return so we can avoid being tortured by Satan for eternity in hell! In the meantime we need to go to church every sunday and punish ourselves for impure thoughts."
Let's break it down: ""we're waiting for the messiah to return so we can avoid being tortured by Satan for eternity in hell!" - Christ doesn't have to return for salvation. In that respect, the original life of Jesus fulfilled that function. Jews are the ones waiting for a Messiah.
"In the meantime we need to go to church every sunday"
Biblical citation? That is good practice, not requirement.
"and punish ourselves for impure thoughts"
You do not "punish yourself" for impure thoughts. You repent and ask for forgiveness.
"You also, incorrectly, indicated that christians do not believe that impure thoughts are sins"
Not what you wrote or what I said.

In the form of a TMF response:
"It is not what Christians believe."
Yes it is. You are wrong.
"Biblical citation? That is good practice, not requirement."
This logic applies to many if not most of the rules in judaism. the talmud is not the word of Hashem and most jews don't follow it. It's inconsistent for you to ignore silly christian practices and harp on silly jewish practices. To the extent the rules originate in the old testament, christians believe in that book too.
"Christ doesn't have to return for salvation. In that respect, the original life of Jesus fulfilled that function. Jews are the ones waiting for a Messiah."
You are avoiding the meat and potatoes of my post. Christians believe there will be a rapture during which the dead will rise and the believers will ascend into heaven for eternity while the nonbelievers will descend into hell to be tortured for eternity. This is an objectively ridiculous thing to believe in.
"You repent and ask for forgiveness."
For impure thoughts. which are sins.
"Not what you wrote or what I said."
Yes I did. The distinctions you draw are pedantic and you avoid a substantive response because you are wrong.

I am not. You keep moving the goal line.

But you understand that the Talmud and the New Testament are textual foundations for religious belief in each respective religion, right? So when you say shit like "but you have to go to Church EVERY Sunday!" - you have to have some actual foundation for that.

Christians believe there will be a rapture during which the dead will rise and the believers will ascend into heaven for eternity while the nonbelievers will descend into hell to be tortured for eternity. Ok, but this is a fairly small part of the religion and gets little focus for most Christians. Whereas waiting for the Messiah and the stupid rules are absolutely a core part of the Jewish religion.
"For impure thoughts. which are sins."
Not sure why you find this so insane.

Yes
PCA Presbyterian, specifically (still traditional/liturgical service, but more engaging than mass and none of the stupid theology, difficult-to-explain molestation scandals, or papal obsession)
make sure they go to Sunday school and youth group as they get older.
Read the Bible aloud a decent amount (the church I go to now has very helpful "lessons" with corresponding passages on the bulletin)
Pray before meals and bed

Unsure about this. Catholicism has some really faggy shit. There is a legit risk your kid gets fondled or diddled by some pervy skinnyfat homo. Probably baptize catholic but hold off on major involvement. I went to episcopal church and was confirmed there but it is all feelgood nonsense with no catechism and no real teaching. Plus now they are all raving gays and let female bulldykes be "priests." No thanks.
I would like a place for them to get some old line xtian exposure without going overboard or faggy so they just have it for frame of reference and can later decide for themselves. Important part for me is making sure they know this is a 2,000-year-plus extension of our history and heritage so you should know about it. Not so much that god lives in the sky and watches you masturbate.

No. I was raised very by the books Bible-only Christianity and don't believe it for a second. But the people who went there believed it in their hearts and that's why it meant something to them.
LJL at a bunch of nebbish norwood 4 biglawyer jews thinking their kids going to church while they manshrew it up in biglaw is going to mean anything. A teenager is not going to sit around in a pew for two hours contemplating the church's place in western civilization or whatever nonsense narrative you cook up in your head--people are either worshiping God or doodling to kill time, full stop. If you don't truly believe in it there is zero chance it will have any impact on their lives other than encouraging decent sleeping habits on the weekend. "Casual" christians are total frauds and there's a reason why all the churches these people used to go to have been dying faster than others--if church is just something you go to instead of a belief system you center your life around, your kids aren't going to give a shit because you so transparently do not and just do it out of habit.

I probably would not.
But I knew a retired Navy officer who had grown up in Texas where, he said, the people of his childhood community were very religious. So much so that it had left a bad taste in his mouth which influenced him deeply into adulthood, and he told me that he had vowed long ago, because of it, never to subject his children to organized religion.
I met his son, a few years older than me, while he was finishing his PhD. He seemed like an alright guy. That was years ago. Recently I ran into this son for the first time in years. He struck me now as being a highly self centered, liberal douche bag.

Yes, because if you raise your kid with Christianity, they may find it something that they like and benefit from, or they may abandon it when they are older. If you don't, then they're never going to find religion later in life.
I don't think I have any unique views on religion, so I am not going to make a choice that forecloses any optuons for my kids. I am also not going to try to shape their views, though I will tell them that Pope Francis is the antichrist if they ask

They might, but it won't be mainstream Christianity. It'll be some cultish bullshit, Islam, etc. That alone makes it worthwhile to raise them in a normal church.
Also, there's something to be said for cultural normalcy.
