I want to make a serious post. What is written here is not written just on my behalf, but on behalf of many like me. For a number of years now, JDUnderground has been a significant part of my life. The website had, and to this day still has, such a strong meaning to me because the website has been a source of unwavering hope for me. Throughout law school, JDUnderground has even been the main source of hope for me. JDUnderground had such an impact on me because of people such as 123fakestreet, newsolo, subprimejd, and immigrationsolo. There were many more, but I can’t remember their names at the top of my head. Those four were the most memorable to me. I’m writing this post as a tribute, as a thank you to those four, and to those like them. I’m writing this post to thank the hustlers, the ones who gave others hope.

The hustlers, especially those four, were the ones who kept me sane in law school. My law school was full of people who were obsessed with joining the ranks of limousine liberals, while showing off in front of each other how “righteous” they were. Everyday I had to deal with egotism, indescribable holier-than-though attitudes, and endless Far Left propaganda. Me, someone from the former Soviet Union who grew up in the brutality of its remains, and who knows exactly what the world the people back in law school want to create is really like. I also witnessed, on a daily basis, a complete lack of financial literacy; be it from the students, or the administrators. Not to mention the regular significant increases in tuition without justifiable reasons and the waste of our student loan money on useless extravagances. Or the endless presence in the back of my mind of the thoughts of debt and the shortage of jobs in the U.S. for entry-level attorneys− that I will never be able to forget for the rest of my life. I went to a law school that is considered prestigious, but for some reason regularly dumped a large number of graduates into B.S. school-sponsored “fellowships;” the stipends the school paid were minimum wage in a high COL city and the administrators would not do much to help their graduates escape such circumstances.

While witnessing all that ridiculousness, I would remind myself of the fates of 123fakestreet, newsolo, subprimejd, and immigrationsolo. Upon their graduation from law school, those four faced circumstances which ranged from serious (immigrationsolo), to outright dire (123fakestreet, newsolo, and subprimejd). Did they give up? Did they choose to live in insane self-denial like mrinfinity, or give up on life like certain posters we all know? No, in the end they hustled. Through their own efforts they built thriving practices which either gave them a comfortable six-figure income or had the growth to reach it in 1-2 years. 123fakestreet, subprimejd, and I believe immigrationsolo, may have had some help from their families. But, their successes were still largely from their own efforts. They hustled so much, that 123fakestreet and newsolo ended up living lives that were better, in terms of both finances and QOL, than those of Biglaw attorneys. The growth which subprimejd and immigrationsolo achieved were propelling them to that level. Most importantly, those four did not forget that they needed to be lawyers for the legal aspects of their practices but had to be BUSINESSMEN for the growth and management aspects of their firms.

Whenever law school would seem to become unbearable, I would remind myself of their stories. I would pull up their old posts, where they described their circumstances upon graduating law school and the details of their rise. Their stories are stories of success, of hope. Sure, for one such story of success there are countless stories of failure. Yet, it has been witnessed over and over on this website that even those who seemed to have initially failed upon graduating law school eventually succeed if they keep on hustling (metsfan comes to mind). Don’t forget all the income threads that appear on here at least once a year.

123fakestreet, newsolo, subprimejd, and immigrationsolo do not post on this website anymore. At least not to my knowledge. I noticed that there is a trend that posters whose lives significantly take off tend to disappear from this website. I guess this website reminds them too much of the dark times in their lives. But, while those four were on here they gave us hope. They showed us that although the legal profession is full of negative elements that viciously beat you down−be it the condition of the job market created by greedy law school administrators, or that law school does nothing to actually teach you how to be a lawyer even if you are forced to be solo upon graduation, or the debt, or sh*tlaw starting salaries, or the ridiculousness of so many members of this profession− those traits can be overcome. Even better, those elements can be shown that you are above them, because you overcame them and became successful.

Thank you, 123fakestreet, newsolo, subprimejd, and immigrationsolo. Thank you, to those like them who used to frequent this website. If you’re still checking on this website occasionally, know that you helped many during some of the darkest times of our lives. I hope that you’re enjoying your success. And, know that there are those who will be forever grateful to you.
