Let me start with a rough breakdown of my journey:

Day 1 Air India left my bag in Singapore, then let it sit around Delhi airport

for 24 hours until after numerous phone calls someone deigned to deliver it to me

Day 2 Bag arrives with most of my things stolen. Air India still refuse to assist me (weeks later)in the matter giving me their “kindly be patient while we work on this bullshit” I just want a reference for my insurance. Wondering Connaught Place, which is FILTHY, I’m accosted by numerous sick and injured kids who beg for money and try to steal from me and men who won’t piss off wanting to take me to the “cottage industry” markets. People are literally shitting on the road.

Day 3 I arrive in Rishikesh to attend a yoga school, the school who I’d paid almost $1000 USD for an upmarket retreat sends me to their “sister school” which is filthy, falling down and has no one else around. I leave and they initially ignore my attempts at contact for a refund, luckily my cc company steps in

Day 5 now stick in Rishikesh I get horrific food poisoning

Day 7 I meet a fellow woman from my country who introduces me to her Indian friend who lives in the next city I’m travelling to and can show me around. Creepy friend calls and texts me about 100 times a day until I block him

Day 9 move to Jaipur where I meet a couple of kids who are being used by a bunch of men to guilt tourists into using them as guides. The kids show me where they hide their money and tell me that the men beat them if they don’t hand it all over so to please say I only paid 100 rupees. Same day I have a bunch of men groping me at a tourist destination asking me if I go hot for the dark skin and my tuktuk driver starts asking about my sex life and that of my sisters

Get taken to a clothing merchant and buy a few pairs of tailored PJs, check my account later to find I’d been charged $300 USD, more than double what was agreed.

Day 12 leave Jaipur by train. The woman working there tells me that I need to go to a different platform about 1km away, once I realise this is incorrect I’ve missed my train - luckily a “helpful” man who had been standing with the official was able to “help me” by taking me to his tour shop. Fuck off champ. I bought another ticket online, not the first class one I’d paid for but a lower class so I was stuck in a carriage with a bunch of creeps staring at me while picking their noses.

Arrive in Agra, my supposedly good hotel was not. Still trying to get my money back for that one, at this point I have up on staying anywhere that wasn’t a large 5 star western chain, I’d tried to support the local industry by booking supposedly 5 star Indian properties but they’re usually closer to 2 apart from the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur.

Go to the Taj, it’s beautiful but visiting the Agra fort and other sites find its filthy, smells like piss and is full of annoying people trying to sell you things or beg. I actually saw people pissing in these heritage sites, everyone throws their rubbish around.

Book a private car to take me from Agra to Delhi, it doesn’t show up. Book another who charges me then, you guessed it, doesn’t show. Had to use the hotel car for a ridiculous rate.

Arrive in Delhi at a supposedly 5 star hotel which is part of a western chain in Connaught place. I’ve never seen anything more dirty, and after weeks in India that’s saying a lot. I get sick from the pollution and the black aircon vents in the room. Leave the next day and move to the shangri la as I’d already stayed there and knew it was okay.

So in just over two weeks I’ve been robbed, have been cheated, scammed groped, stared at and lied to numerous times. I’m not a backpacker staying in cheap places, I flew business class for most of my travels, booked what was supposedly 5 star accom, dressed conservatively, didn’t go out at night and took all the steps you’re meant to and even then I had this experience.

For every 1 good person I met in India I met about 100 bad ones. It’s like they all see westerners as walking bags of money and women as creatures who are gagging to jump into bed with these slum dwellers.

Everywhere I went all I saw was filth, even national monuments aren’t safe. I have t even bothered to go into detail on the daily occurrence of being followed by men and stalked by tuk tuk drivers

Reading the news paper each morning was a terrifying eye opener and was full of stores of rape and murder, even little kids murdering other kids.

Without a doubt the most disgusting place I’ve ever been and is full of people trying to take advantage of you in some way.

I used to be an empathetic person but found myself hating almost everyone I came across there.

But what she completely captures is just the amount of dishonesty and scams. You cannot do a single touristy thing there without being relentlessly sold some fucking fake trinket made by a slave.

I had a female friend who did this and she got 'food poisoning' so badly her doctor told her she would never have kids.

She doesn't sound cheap at all. She didn't complain once about the cost of anything. She just complained about the the lying, stealing, fraud culture that permeates India.

She said the Taj hotel she stayed at was nice but she tried to support Indians since she was in fucking India. Sorry, but if your argument is, "she should've stayed in American hotels and she wouldn't have gotten scammed!" then its pretty clear India is shitty.

And when I went I stayed at American hotels and had a top rated Trip Advisor private driver and I experienced the same fucking constant scamming from like 20 different people. Then one day we went out on our own and as soon as we got in that car he started begging us to go to some other trinket shop.

I've traveled to every continent and have warm memories of every place, except India still gives me the fucking creeps just because of how annoying and scammy literally everyone was.

I remember after applying for jobs I began to get an enormous amount of scam phonecalls and other shit probably because Rajeev from IT who got hired by an incompetent boomer sold my resume info.
