Most people do it wrong because they buy two *different* tickets. If you flip two *different* coins, there are four possible outcomes. If you flip two of the *same* coin, there are only two outcomes. Since it's impossible to have two of the same coin (there's only one physical manifestation of a specific coin), that outcome can never be realized. It's similar with lottery tickets, but lottery tickets are not subject to this restriction. The trick is to buy two tickets with identical numbers because then the odds of each ticket winning are 50-50 which makes it a mathematical certainty. Crazy no one has thought of this yet.
