The GOP won those counties in every POTUS election from 1952 through 2004 with the exception of LBJ 1964. Obama won them both in 2008, and the Dem margin has increased since.
Trump lost Fort Bend County, suburb of Houston, the first Republican to do so since 1936. He gave up a lot of white suburban voters in red states who normally vote GOP. It's the main reason why his margins in AZ, UT, TX, GA, were lower than prior Republicans. |
