I'm starting to appreciate 50's sci-fi for its complexity, not just campiness

even a low-budget film like "X the Unknown" (1956), which is itself kind of a ripoff of a related sci-fi series called "Quatermass," has as its conceit the notion of differential evolution and the return to the surface of the earth of life-forms which operate on different principles of energy absorption than terrestrial creatures.
it struck me that these ideas would probably be considered too complex to convey to a mainstream film audience in 2018.
