The area is under-studied, for reasons obvious.
My reasoning is that: (i) mental illness is on a continuum with personality; (ii) personality factors associated with both creative genius & just going crazy and shooting people vary at least weakly with race or ethnicity (cf. http://sci-hub.tw/https://www.nature.com/articles/ng.3736 )
Hypothesis was prob. initially motivated by something like - Eaves et al., Personality and Reproductive Fitness (1990) ( https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/5ae0/277b6414015b4cc4f1c5e2650bd41f2f1512.pdf )
IDK if true or a good explanation for this phenomenon or indeed even if there is a real phenomenon here. |

I didn't mean to say white men are more likely to be mentally ill (or not), just that other social factors are probably contributing to how it erupts and whether that's in the form of an unhinged mass murder situation.
If a Muslim has the same sort of mental illness, they might do a similar murder spree but also have pledged it to ISIS. A black guy might be more likely to just become a gangster instead of lashing out at a room full of innocent civilians. Minorities with these mental conditions might be more likely to be incarcerated/watched on probation at much higher rates than whites for various reasons.
