The astronauts never left LEO. We may have had the rocketry to get there but no way to get there and return safely.

Sending unmanned vehicles is NBD, it's doing so safely with a human. Also many people cite that the van Allen radiation belts are a big issue to get through safely. I don't know about that part but I've come to the conclusion that we did not leave LEO with a human.

Glad the West bet their entire technological reputation that a few Russian radar operators would ignore a signal coming from LEO.

CAN'T BELIEVE IT ALL WORKED OUT.

the part where they claim to have jettisoned a separate vehicle from an orbiting spacecraft to land on the moon, then drove around in a go-cart on the moon for 3 days, then somehow blasted off and reconvened with the orbiting space-ship and flew 500,000 miles back to earth.

it's just too much to believe.... that is an incredibly complicated maneuver. given that the landing craft looks like something a kid built in his garage using tinfoil, for a home movie, i just cannot believe they pulled it off.

Random MAF internet dork's compelling "It looks flimsy" argument versus the TLS combined theoretical and practical knowledge of 99.9% of astrophysicists and rocket-scientists from Space Agencies around the world.

"given that the landing craft looks like something a kid built in his garage using tinfoil"

The craft was never exposed to any atmosphere and was built to withstand stresses just 1/6th of what a craft here on earth would sustain. Literally the only environmental force of concern on the moon was radiation, hence the gold foil. What should it have looked like?

2018 technology space suits have giant diapers instead of plumbing and weigh 3x as much.
