I don’t give a shit about this at all. Newsflash: Middle Eastern countries run by Muslims are universally barbaric and shitty. It has been this way for centuries. And we have never really had a “moral” aspect to our foreign policy. Just support the lesser of two evils, or who benefits us more, which is what all other countries do and is correct.
That’s why we haven’t started a war with North Korea, despite them basically carrying out a Holocaust right now against their own people. Because it would be tremendously expensive, their refugees would flood and overwhelm their neighbors, and this all would be much worse for us than leaving things as is. Morality has nothing to do with it.
It’s also why many of us support Assad (a murderous dictator), because he’s infinitely better than the likely alternative (ISIS running the country). Hell, China is basically turning Africa into a slave colony yet again (apparently as nature intended), yet no one is batting an eye.
So, anyone upset about this needs to grow up. This is how the world works. Bad people/countries do bad things, and most look the other way, when taking action would require personal cost. Sometimes countries even ally with the bad people, when it’s a “lesser of two evils” situation and the host country benefits from the situation. There is no such thing as “American values” with respect to foreign policy; that’s a catchy slogan the neocons came up with to justify their endless World Police regime change foreign escapades. Gotta keep those defense contractors happy and profitable after all! |
