Doesn't matter if you've only ever played a few hands or if you're a serious player--if you like poker and want to join the conversation, come on in. You'll really like it here.

Technical strategy discussion, the mental game, live and online venues--where will the conversation take us? Pretty much anywhere we want; we'll see what unfolds.

I'm an online MTT grinder and I play everything from $10 events to whatever the biggest events are being offered. Maybe :D will stop by and share some live low stakes wisdom.

Mixed games aren't about mastery. If you can crush one of the games, while holding your own in the others, you will be a winning player. It's like MMA compared to NLH's boxing.

Americas Card Room and Ignition. Deposit and cash out are seamless with bitcoin. Sites may require a playthrough period before you can withdraw. Inquire before you deposit.

Online MTTs are really really tough, and who knows bots very well may be lurking in the field. But theyre only a big problem at cash games and I don't play online cash. I'm obsessed with tournaments. All bot fears regardless of game type are speculative anyway.

love the dynamism (increasing blinds, inflection points in strategy based on stack sizes and ICM, all sorts of other moving parts). Cash is stagnant and online cash sucks.

If I'm ever going to get rich (I only care about winning so I can just keep playing more and more poker) it'll be through scooping a huge MTT so I like them by necessity. I play for live ammo training if anything else

BetOnline has the most non-regulars and gamblers. they have one of the biggest (if not the biggest) sportsbooks and have a lot of easy free cashout options (so do all of the sites though now with Bitcoin). the best players play on ACR and the other Winning Poker Network sites aka WPN (all same network), and WPN has the best and biggest tournaments, most players, and they have like 27% rakeback. their software is terrible though and it's where all of the grinders play. if u want to win at poker, you have to either have an edge in terms of skill or get lucky, and the two best sites where skill is low are BetOnline and Ignition (formerly bovada). i've never felt like i was against a bot and if i were, it would be pretty easy to win once you get to like 4-handed or fewer.

This and it's really important to highlight COLLUDING.

Bots on their own still aren't that great, it's when some Russian has multiple sharing their hole card info that they become unstoppable.

But like you say this is really limited on CASH PLO.

Thanks! A little over 10 years ago, I wrote a program that injected code into the PokerStars client software. That code displayed each player's stats (like PFR, VPIP, limp & call raise, etc.) on the screen next to the player's avatar. All of the stats were taken from PokerTracker (using my hand histories).

I should write a poker bot.

Strictly a tournament player here, terrible performer in cash games, stopped playing online back in 2007/08 time frame. I generally finish in the money in ~50-60% of tourneys, have won one (Thanksgiving tourney in Palm Desert), and final tabled in several others.

Welcome friend!

I had some serious confidence issues and other IRL distractions that ebbed and flowed over the last ~3 years. Thankfully they're all in the past for me.

My volume in online MTTs has been lacking for my taste (I only have about 600 games which is tiny for online MTTs, the sickest sickos can play easy 450 games in one month)

But my results are OK. I have 5 wins and I think 5 more FTs but return-on-investment-wise could do better, only eeking out like a 10% ROI over that timeframe which I can live with considering I just recently started really taking my studying and preparation to the next level. Also pretty good considering I royally fucked up the last several FTs I got to.

So I'm like a cunt hair away from having a crusher's RIO in MTTs. Slowly but surely getting there. I can't believe how much my game has improved within the last year, and especially the last 6 months.

How is your push-fold game? If you haven't studied it, it will give you the most bang for your buck in MTTs. It's fairly counter-intuitive, so you are probably making mistakes in short stack situations if you haven't been studying.

By the time you get down to ~15bb you can start entering push-fold mode. At that point you may still find some spots are more +EV by coming in for a normal open but with <=15bb you also can't really go wrong just shoving an appropriate range from whatever position you're in

This is a good start to worn on you push-fold game:

A little more info:

Depends on how seriously you take the game, and what your skill level is (and being honest to yourself about it)

2+2 forums get shit on but they're actually a great resource. Discussion and debate are ALWAYS productive in this game

Modern poker theory has drifted towards a Game Theory Optimal approach. If you're a seriously player then one splurge you really should consider is PioSolver, which is a really fast GTO solver. It's by no means required but really nice to have if you ant to elevate your game. And if you're not familiar with GTO, you should definitely read up on it.

Of course books, articles, etc. Maybe training sites if that's your thing (it's not mine but everyone is different)

And finally of course, it's my hope this thread can provide some help in the form of poasters posting hands or questions or whatever. Would love to have consistent poker discussion with the XO crew.

Yeah it's amazing how much tractability is adds to such problems as "what's the best betsize here" or "what are my best bluffs" or a million other things.

Without getting too much into the weeds, the idea behind GTO is unexploitability, which means villain's can't effectively change their strategies to counter ours. We play our range so that we maintain the correct balance of value and bluffs and villain's can do no better than be indifferent to how to proceed.

When in doubt, you can never go wrong trying to play a GTO strategy. Note that playing GTO doesn't imply max EV. In reality, no one can play perfect GTO because the game trees can be hundreds of thousands of nodes in size and no one can compute them in real time. So where people deviate from GTO you can exploit them in order to increase your EV (which inm turn makes you exploitable--if villain's can figure out how to do it.)

So the modern day strategy is like a GTO foundation with an exploitative overlay.

I don't think most players are skilled enough to even consider how others at the table are playing. At low limit cash games, the majority of players don't bluff at all.

No, in fact you'll probably hamper yourself in LLSNL using a GTO strategy. Players are so bad it's all about max exploitation, you don't worry about how that opens you up to being exploited because they generally won't figure out how to do that.

GTO is essential for competitive online MTT play tho

I play occasional live games ($1/$2 NL) at the Hard Rock in Tampa, but haven't played online poker since way back when PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker were the main sites. I used to 8-table $2-4 limit games on PokerStars and play their $20 buy-in tournaments fairly regularly (I won one of them & was in the money on roughly 2/3 of them). My roommate in college actually won the Sunday millions one night, which was pretty cool (payout of like $250k)

i basically never played online. randomly one night while it was still "legal" i downloaded Pokerstars and played a tournament, finished a couple jumps above a min cash. whoopee.

on a whim i decided to search to see if a kid in the college poker crew was playing (he was much more serious, and i had heard that he was doing well). just by pure luck, i happened to go on at the right time to watch him chop a big tournament.
