This subthread is about the effect on the child. An alternative arrangement would be mom and stepdad live in one place and have primary custody of the kid and dad has every other weekend and lives alone. I genuinely do not think that is better for a child than the arrangement in the article.

The real issue here is the impact on the kid but I think it's debatable if this arrangement is better than the alternative. I think it's debatable because of the insane housing costs involved and the kid may have to be completely uprooted if each of these people have to afford a place of their own.
