There isnt enough to do in Seattle alone to carry it as a top tier city. The restaurants are good, but not great. The sports scene is good, but not great. The live music scene isnt as robust as it was in the 90s. The public transit (other than the ferries) is subpar.
Seattle really shines as a jumpin off point for outdoorsmen. |

the guy above is correct. if you don't love the outdoors, Seattle probably isn't for you. it's arguably the most scenic city in the country, but it is a grind if you don't like crunchy outdoors shit, alcohol, weed, and indulgent liberal culture. the city itself if impossible to move around easily and very neighborhood constricted. you'll feel poor in Seattle even if making decent money. COL is constantly ticking up and construction has no end in sight. other urban areas can't get access to giant building cranes for development because something like 2/3s of them are in Seattle. |

Seattle also has world class seafood, the beer and coffee culture is legit if you like that stuff, and you're an easy day trip to BC or Portland. it's also a huge metro area and you can find any sort of neighborhood to suit your tastes. crunchy, upscale, quiet, hyper urban, fratty, artsy, whatever, gentrifying, hipster, bland, it's all there. look up pictures of alki beach, lower queen ann, old ballard, Capitol Hill, phinney ridge, Georgetown, fremont (festival), pioneer square, waterfront/market to get a fraction of the different shit you can get there. those are all decent destinations for younger people to live.
one word of warning, however: if you are work from home and don't know anyone there, you will have a hard time meeting people. google the 'seattle freeze.' it's not a mean city, but people are outwardly reserved and into their own shit. you'll have to work at making friends. |
