I mean a city where a 1 bedroom costs 1.2 million and everyone makes $40k a year sounds like heaven to me and just do add 100k new immigrants every year forever. Whatever could go wrong?

NY won’t have the ridiculous property price growth it had in the 90s (more because of overconstruction) but it is a financial center and rich people want to live here.

CA may have a problem if the tech bubble bursts. Their liberals are also two levels more crazy than NY.

IL is fucked.

The tech bubble bursts about once a decade here, on timing that suspiciously correlates to VC fund formation cycles. We just remonetize the sunshine and watch the transplants leave until the next tech boom starts 12-18 months later. Same as it ever was.

Not CA and NY because they have immense wealth and continuous flow of foreigners and foreign money to prop up their state. CA especially being the hub of new economy and tech industry will never go bust

IL is done here. Chicago is a TTT in steep decline

tbf, people have been predicting "imminent doom" for illinois due to its pensions problem for at least a dozen years. thus far, all of those predictions have been wrong.

No. This is a slow bake. People have been saying “if Illinois doesn’t take drastic action soon, it will be fucked” for a long time. They were warning IL when there still was time. Well Illinois didn’t act when it had time and now it has run out of time. It’ll still be a few years before the full impact hits, but it will hit.
