Prole here wearing a uniform wares m42 as only watch could find without some striver brand logo on the front.
LJL at buying into the mechanical meme - paying thousand of dollars for a striver watch that is less accurate than a $20 quartz.

These are a nice in between something at Target or Macy's and luxury watches: https://www.stowa.de/en/ I really like their pilot watch for a casual watch. Their Antea line is nice-looking - a poorman's Nomos.
Hamilton would work, too, although they're much more common. Lots of sales on them at Jomashop and (I think) Ashford.com - they're priced way below retail.

Watchmo here: Timex is surprisingly CR here. They are putting out strong pieces with great history behind them.
Just this week they released a watch for $179 that sold out same day: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/q-timex

I do, yes. Where I work the worst thing you can be is considered not tech savvy so everyone and their mother has a smartwatch. And everyone always upgrades to the latest one.
Also wearing fitness trackers 24/7 is pretty popular too. That doesn't look great but it signals that you're "active" and in corporate America that's a good thing too.
Wearing an expensive manual watch sends the worst signal possible. You're old-fashioned, low-tech and you're obviously overpaid. Given that the company is always looking to send people like this packing, it is probably the worst look to have. Showing up with some monochrome pebble or fitness tracker to an exec meeting is a better look than that.
If you work at some large law firm then standards are totally different. The most important currency is preftige. But in-house at megacorps that doesn't really matter much and certain checkbox personal traits are far more important. In some cases the prestige can be a negative ((s)he is only here because they have x credential, but they're a terrible fit = they should be shitcanned ASAP).

I got my Samsung Galaxy Watch for $225 (it was a refurb). I got my S3 for roughly similar like 2 years ago. It is still good so I gave it as a gift. You can spend as little as $100 or as much as $1k+.
I get that Apple watches, fitbits, etc. look stange but there are a ton of options that don't. https://i-cdn.phonearena.com/images/articles/334590-thumb/samsung-galaxy-watch-replacement-steel-band-strap.jpg
But again, I'm just a huge fan of function over form and preferring something actually useful and interesting over something that "provides an appropriate signal of wealth/prestige".

But for me, the point is not to have to constantly take out my phone. Someone sends me a message? I can read it by looking at my wrist. Otherwise, I feel the vibration, take out my phone, unlock it, read it, put it back, oh wait, buzz again, rinse and repeat. Watch? Look at the wrist.
I can even respond to messages and take quick calls without taking out my phone.
Anyway, this is like talking with a grandma about why the news has to be on the electronic screen instead of on good ol' paper.

Because if I am working I am on my laptop or reading printed docs.
When I am not working I barely use the thing.
The fitness tracking feature is totally unnecessary unless one is a top-level athlete. No one needs that kind of marginal data.

Yeah, in-house is very different. You spend a ton of time in meetings/walking to meetings/on the phone, etc. Sometimes I'm literally walking my dog, on the phone, getting messages, etc. That smartwatch helps a ton.
"The fitness tracking feature is totally unnecessary unless one is a top-level athlete"
That's totally false. If I see I'm not active enough I'll schedule time to exercise. It even tells you if you've been sitting still too long. It encourages you to take stairs instead of the elevator. It records heart rate so you know hte intensity with which you're working out.

I think I paid 2100 for my used speedy pro in near mint condition and I feel like it was worth it. It's something you keep a long time.
MAKE SURE U CHECK THE BAND SIZE IF YOU BUY A USED OMEGA
I didn't really pay attention. A lot of the used market comes out of Japan and has been sized for chink wrists. My wrists are on the smaller side and if the band had even one link less it would have been too tight. Extra Omega links are pretty expensive.
