What most people think of as NJ is the eastern portions of Central and Northern NJ which is composed of mostly very shitty urban areas and boring suburbs. The taxes are high especially property taxes and people can be...unpleasant.

But NJ has beautiful natural areas like Sussex County, the Sourland Mountain Preserve, Mount Tammany, Duke Farms, lake hopatcong and the motherfucking jersey shore. there are also great restaurants all over the place where you can dine at a very reasonable cost. There's a robust local music scene as well if you are into that.

So yes there is certainly truth to the stereotypes but NJ has a lot of redeeming qualities, and i don't think it's so much different than nearby states like Maryland or Massachusetts.

Morristown - Cheaper and has a great downtown, but definitely has a ghetto part and farther from MFH. Schools are crappier than say, Summit or Millburn.

Madison - No clue.

Westfield - Well rated, less amenities in terms of restraurants and such. We didn't consider it because it was too quiet.

South Orange - MY FAVE!!!!! Ok, not really, but it is decent. Has some amazing mansions and some crappier parts. Also has a cute downtown area and pretty conveniently located. Close to South Mountain Reservation which is awesome.

Denville - Don't know.

Maplewood - Like South Orange except I think South Orange is better.

Montclair - Great downtown area, a few ghetto areas around it, conveniently located to the city and close to some great nature areas. Has a lot more college-aged people than a lot of the other burbs mentioned.

Denville is West of Parsippany off of rt. 46. Has a small downtown area with a few restaurants and shops (nothing special). Schools are decent but not elite because they combine with TTT Rockaway for high school. You can get a nice 4 bedroom home for around $600k.

Drive for hours and can’t make a left turn. Sit in your car like a cuck while some dude pumps gas and puts filthy fluid all over your windshield. Access to MNH is reliant on a tunnel that is literally collapsing with no replacement funded. Toll roads to get anywhere.

The state is broke and things will only be getting worse tax wise. Worst stare finances in the country aside from Illinois and maybe CT.
