It will only intensify over the next 10 years or so as more real estate becomes available to reposition. This is an huge hidden competitor to We Work if you think about it, due to the innately superior built in amenities afforded by malls of the future.
Mall developers are catering to WeWork's customers not only via the coworking space being developed but the go-forward tenant makeup. A lot of the new leasing activity at malls is stuff that is lifestyle like restaurants or gyms or other forms of experiential entertainment. It makes a lot of sense really. You will want to eat lunch or go to the gym or whatever during your work day and that can all be done at a mall - especially when you have so much variety.
New development projects skew pretty heavy mixed use/office as well now.
