Crime is way worse now than it used to be after Hurricane Ivan. Jamaicans moved in harder with drug trade and petty criminal shit. Stay on the nice parts of West Bay and you should be fine, but never -- NEVER -- go to Bodden Town. That place is a literal slum located next to a literal garbage dump area. |

Even the private schools are largely not white and what not. But the Caymanian people are highly religious and are generally not some type of violent population you would find in NYC.
Beaches are among the best in the world. I know people may disagree -- and I suppose I am biased -- but my family traveled a bunch growing up and Seven Mile Beach is by far my favorite.
The island has undergone a lot of change in the last decade. Much more Asian investment (mostly Japan) in condos and whatever, but they are absentee. Entire floors of high end properties are literally vacant all year. It means you have these great properties on great land that are essentially big ass paperweights. Plus the Dart presence on the island is like the blob, he buys everything. |

For example, the Ebanks and Bodden families literally make up like 1 in 15 or 1 in 30 people on the island. It is truly a situation where most people know most people. In the expat community, it is largely the same. People just gravitate to their respective classes and rotate within those environments. There are exceptions, but they mostly come from the younger generation who have school mates who had different affiliations.
There is not a huge amount of people who leave. Many do because they need to find work to support their families (they go to Miami primarily, sometimes Baltimore of all places). Few go to Jamaica (caymanians look down on Jamaicans), and fewer still to cuba because there is not a lot of work there.
Alternatively, Cayman is VERY HARD to get into if you want to get residency or citizenship. They are hospitable people, but very nativist in their immigration policies. Most white fols on the island work as bar tenders, dive masters, or in the financial sector, shit like that. But they usually have to leave the island physically every so often to renew their "pass" to stay on the island. weird shit. |
