Date: January 16th, 2020 12:39 PM Author: Amber gaped stain Neither time of mine is a good story, but for the youngs: In 2009 I was ITEd - bunch of people at the firm got let go on the same day at the same time (I had a month where I billed <10 hours, and another with <20, and some other associates had already disappeared in earlier rounds, so between all this and the near-daily memos leaked to ATL from other firms, it wasn't exactly a surprise).
They had partners we worked for tell us rather than all being called into a conference room, but the partner who was to tell me was a few minutes late coming to get me (he said he was sitting in his office dreading it) but he was late enough that my computer had already been locked and I couldn't move my mouse or anything - the screen just froze. I didn't put two and two together in the moment, but after I was let go it made sense.
When I went around to say goodbye, one partner's first question (as if I would know) was what happened to the doc of his I was working on when my computer froze - no "sorry, dude" or "keep in touch" or offer to help me. |

i can understand biting your tongue when you're green in your field and really need to build up a resume. but after a certain point the cost outweighs the benefit. anyone can figure out how to cover resume gaps if need be. still, you can probably leave it on there. chances are your prospective employer isn't even going to call the place anyway, and if they do they probably won't be talking with your former direct superior. just checking to see if you legit worked there. if they want a work reference just give them a co-worker. |
