In terms of reliability, aesthetics, mechanism, trigger (SRT), design, history, function.

Only negative is the price.

The USP/HK45 et al are one of the few lighyweight DA/SA gun that I can think of. DA/SA provides a good overall balance between trigger weight and safety imho. Also the HKs can be carried in condition 1/2/3 which almost no other gun can. Torture-tested to hell and back and all that.

Internet posters don't care about any of the above afaik and really only like Glock 19s and sometimes get seduced by Sigs, maybe CZs.

This is a situation where I would just get a Glock. The P226 is heavy af, plus the high bore axis. A lot of people like CZs more. If you're tolerant of heavy metal guns, a 1911 is slimmer and has a better trigger. The P226 was better than everything else in the 1980s but now it's meh imho.

If you are a n00b and want to actually hit what you are aiming at, you will love the PPQ (or 1911, or most revolvers).

1911 is too complicated to strip and clean. And it's finicky. And there's a risk if the sear malfunctions you end up with full auto which will get you in big trouble.

You won't fall in love with it imo - has small sights, and if you have huge hands the hammer will pinch you due to not having the beavertail.

The SR1911 for instance has novak sights, beavertail, bobbed hammer, ambidextrous safety, blah blah blah, and can be had for less.

For a noob I'd recommend either something SA (1911/revolver), or the PPQ. IME at the range myself and seeing how people shoot, striker or DA/SA triggers show a strong correlation with hitting low/left and wide groups with most people. Whereas PPQ/1911 just hits where you point it. If you want to join the Glock cult then do so by all means, it just takes more practise ime.

1. What exactly are you worried about in terms of maintenance? Takedown is nbd, the recoil spring will take your eye out if you do it wrong but that's it. But you don't actually need to clean a gun with any frequency irl, its just something you do.

2. It's a single-stack, it's NARROWER than any of the guns mentioned ITT, especially with slim grips. The weight helps absorb recoil. i.e. it's the best possible gun for your weak ass.

Yeah, "it's what you do," but it's overkill the way that gun nerds/military do it imo. All that matters to me is preventing jams and rust. JMO.

Thanks do you also clean the outside of the gun in general (trigger guard, metal part of any grips) if it's stainless steel or is that area generally rust resistant?

I love the p226 but he’s not wrong at all.

Sig made a name for themselves in the 80s with the p226 being pretty much revolutionary, but quality has fallen noticeably from the “made in west Germany” days and there are a million options for reliable, accurate and durable pistols.

Went to the Gun Store. All sold out of Glock's except one used Glock 44. All sold out of Sig P320 models. There were still several P226 variants available including a 9mm standard nitron model and the MK25 and Legion models still available. Is the P226 platform obsolete and overpriced?
