Nintendo not putting a 2nd analog stick on their controller was the second worst decision they made (the worst is the decision to go with cartridges).

Camera issues were common through the PS2 era, it's just something you have to live with if you want to play that generation of games

Most HD remakes fix this though

What is your people's problem with the camera. There are so few examples of it actually being bad. You're just supposed to go with the flow and not try to adjust it constantly.

A lot of the levels are wide-open so there's nothing for the camera to hit. It works perfectly in the Bowser levels. Where is it really that bad, the clock level?

Sometimes if you go with the flow you wind up with a retarded camera angle and then have to mess around with the controls a lot to get a good one (which you might not be able to do if you're unlucky)

So many wide open levels though. There's very little platforming in tight areas and when there is, those levels suck imo.

i get that Mario 64 was a groundbreaking game and (i think?) the first 3D platformer console game, but maybe they could have spend a bit more time optimizing the camera for the 10% that isn't for the re-release 24 years after it came out

Is this seriously just the N64 version? Not the handheld version that lets you play as Yoshi/Luigi? That version probably had a better camera as well.

I don't even know why you fags are so excited about this. Mario 64 is one of those 1996 experiences best felt IN 1996. It was so fuckin' cool just jumping around the castle courtyard with all of the various acrobatic moves. It was 180 af imho. The camera in tight corridors is just something you tolerate. Sunshine manages to be a worse game. And why no Galaxy 2? Is that game not an "all-star?"

In fairness, it's basically a 25yo game, and it was revolutionary at the time. Revolutionary games rarely age well since that first decent attempt at the revolution (here, 3D platforming) is going to be rough. That's why SM3 and SMW have aged so well. They were peak old tech (2D) instead of shit new tech (3D).

Mario 64 has brilliant "control," it's just the camera people complain about.

MGS1 had weird control in some instances, MGS2 was perfect.
