What about X?

Or, like, what about people born in like 1905? They got fucked by the Great Depression and then died. Swing dancing 1920s speculators fared much better.

If it's qualified as "American" it's still wrong but LJL when they don't and say "ever." Yeah, tons of chill bros in the Bronze Age Collapse doing way better than their parents. Same thing with the Crisis of the Third Century.

Part of it is we only actually care about certain generations.

Hero Generations like the Greatest Gen and Millennials are civic generations who organize society following a crisis, while Prophet gens like the Boomers start to lead society astray.

Silent Gen and X-er gens are reactive or adaptive and no one really gives a fuck about them. In adjusted numbers they're also smaller than the Hero and Prophet gens who have drive nearly all of American history.

The history of america is really a metanarrative about the breaking down of society (boomers, dying in a dystopian America of their creation) and the recreation of society (millennials, still not at the helm of power).

Some family income study a few years ago showed the percentage of people born in each year that out-earned their parents. It was still a majority until it got to the early 80's. So most of gen X did do better than their parents. It was a steady downward slope from the 1950's on.
