Depends on your school.

Also are you talking about this summer or next summer?

Others know a lot more about Texas 1L biglaw hiring than I do, but I don't think grades matter nearly as much... hell lots of people from your class have likely been hired w/o firms seeing their grades at all.

I doubt this would be a serious obstacle for 2L hiring if you keep your grades up this semester.

"redo the exam"? is this common? I have never heard of anyone doing this, and I bet most profs don't want to go through the effort of reading another one.

If you get comments on the B- exam, and you got A's in all your other classes, then why the fuck would you want to retake the exam and get comments on another answer?

I don't see a need to re-do the exam. If you got a B-, it means you probably missed some fundamental issue. Sometimes it's hard for students who are used to getting A's in HS and UG to adjust to not being the top student in every class. Just talk to the professor about the exam. There's no need to redo the whole thing; that's like asking the whore for her cherry. You're taking up your own time and the professor's as well for no gain. If you actually got A's in the rest of your classes, you probably know how to write a decent exam.

"I'm going to ask him to let me redo the exam, even if it's for no credit"

he'll probably let you do it for credit considering your other grades

There is no possibility he will raise your grade based on a retake of the test. This is not junior high, it is law school. It would be completely unfair to allow students who don't do well the first time to get another shot.

If you even mention raising the grade your professor will hate you. I already hate you for taking advice from LSD.

It's unlikely that your grade could get raised without lowering someone else's even assuming some prof would even entertain this idea (and none of them would). If you're that curious as to why you choked (and I hope for your sake you get over this feeling or law school will just be a long, painful experience), just ask the professor. I doubt he or she would even want to read a do-over anyways and I doubt it would earn you brownie points with anyone. Believe it or not, some profs hate brown-nosers.

Christ, I really wish most of the people in law school aren't as douchey as you are.
