i brought it up to the interviewing partner at OCI. already had an offer in hand from one of my two tied for #1 firms, so it was a bit of a blowoff.

anyway, he talked about how stroooock is different and encourages problem solving and shit and i was like "oh yes, i was impressed by the freedom you give your marketing staff. the penguin thing was great. i bowled a 300 and never got my t-shirt".

not even a crack of a smile and a dry "we discontinued the bowling".

iirc, they still had penguins but the bowling was gone at that time.

i actually don't think it was americanski's fault. he definitely won about 48 stroockbowl t-shirts but then some jackass found a way to shortcut the actual bowling and found an open source for the stroockbowl t-shirt form. then a shitstorm of xoxo posters flooded Stroock's overburdened stroockbowl servers with thousands of t-shirt orders.

shortly thereafter, stroockbowl was pulled. they still have some SWeet interview tips though.

You would sort of get the hang of it after a while. The penguin would always veer to the left or right. You just had to fire him right down the middle, then wait until he was almost at the pins and move him back to the middle. Since he would still keep veering in the same direction, he would hit just between the front pin and the one to its immediate right or left.

I didn't realize so many people got dinged because of mentioning teh stroock penguins.

My most beloved swag from last year was the squeezable penguin given out by Stroock. While the penguin doesn't have the favor of all the firm's attorneys, it delighted me. Any time I've seen penguins since**, I've thought of Stroock, which I suppose is a sign of semi-successful advertising.
