reassuring except for two red flags:

1) only 5 developers including some being part time. considering that they raised 22M they should have hired more ppl. having only 5 and planning mainnet launch in Q3 is weak. he says they want to increase headcount to 15 by june but they need to get more aggressive

2) no clear answer to how they are going to improve marketing

their unconcern with marketing concerns me. they're a bunch of engineers who don't realize it doesn't matter that dvorak is 10% better than qwerty if you can't get anyone to use it.

but number of devs is irrelevant. larry and sergei built the first google. woz designed the apple ii. the team that maintains the base kernel of windows had only 34 developers in 2017, and that's a stable, mature, enormous codebase. the better question is whether the team is good enough. sharding is ambitious. e.g., mongodb, a mature sharded database, is unreliable. do the zilliqa engineers have the talent to get the failsafes, latency, and everything else right?

number of developers is relevant if you want to pull in your road map. Q3 mainnet launch is TTT considering that its been under development since summer 2017

but your point regarding marketing is 100% cr. nobody cares that snapdragon is 20% faster than A7 or whatever. time to market is more important than optimizing it to death. but they cant fuck it up either on basic functionality, security, scalability etc

i hope for my own sake they can implement it as proclaimed. their core team definitely has the technical expertise (IITB, UCB, NUS are top notch schools) but I am not an expert on sharding to estimate the probability they can achieve what they can claim. the public testnet should answer this clearly i guess

I've been ranting about the marketing thing all month. Dong and Co are retarded if they do not understand why marketing is important right now.

They are competing with other public blockchains, which is obviously a highly competitive space with some very established players. It doesn't matter how good SHARDING is if no one knows about it and no one adopts it.

Also, I worry someone is just going to come along and pump out a similar project more quickly.

it's hilarious how after it was the HOT NEW DATASTORE in like 2010 five years later everyone realized mongodb is mostly garbage

because its big selling point (simplicity and scalability while being fast) is mainly an artifact that of having very little guarantees around data integrity. if you run a cluster of mongodb nodes they aren't guaranteed to be consistent, so if you care about consistency it is a lot of work to ensure it behaves in that fashion. and, surprise, when you try to make mongodb act in a consistent fashion its "speediness" completely evaporates relative to standard databases. also, the "schemaless" nature is kind of a sham in the sense that most people will end up using it identically to how they would use a standard rdbms, except it's shittier because if your schema changes down the line it is a pain in the ass.

on top of that, postgres adding direct support for JSON stores pretty much destroyed mongo. for simpler nosql needs, something like redis is faster, or couchdb if you want a document store (and in general both weredeveloped from the mindset of being much more upfront about what they are and are not good at; mongodb had enormous hype in being the "database to rule them all")
