simpsons (90s only) - one of the funniest and cleverest shows ever

Arrested Development - I added this here, but this is probably the most laugh out loud series of the past 20 years that is good but keeps you guessing. The jokes in The Office are well done but they're not that different than you would get from ay other show - whereas Arrested Development really has no parallel...

south park - this is a show that had a hilarious season with pc principal which was debuted in season 19. i don't think there's ever been a show where the 19th season was maybe the best

30 rock - this is probably the best written of all these shows - very, very sharp jokes

it's always sunny - very funny manic energy

the office - this is a great comedy with great performances, but a lot of it is uneven and other than the interview gimmick, it just wasn't that revolutionary of a sitcom

veep - this is a very sharp, very funny mean show - but the characters are lacking - not sure you care for anyone else

curb your enthusiasm - i put this last just because its watchable but it just isn't that polished and it isn't that much funnier than the rest of the shows to make up for the fact that it isn't believable as a show about half the time
