Subject: Hi need some major help!!

Hi I found out today that I got a F in my Business Statistics class. It is my first F at this school and has put my gpa into the shitter at 2.98. I was wondering what you would recommend doing to try to improve this grade so as I do not have to redo the class again. The teacher is not on faculty at my school she teaches at another school and is a real bitch. A friend recommended calling her and asking her if I can do some extra credit shit to raise my grade. What do you think would be the best action for me to take so as to raise this grade and not have to retake the class again. Thanks in advance.

Actually, it is correctly "a" F. 'An' is an indefinite article used before words beginning with a vowel or with an unpronounced h: an elephant; an hour. Do you say: "he doesn't have an future"? Nice try on being a jackass.

Holy crap, go back to first grade:

http://english-zone.com/grammar/a-anlessn.html

"Use AN if the next word begins with a vowel SOUND.

This is a sound rule, NOT a spelling rule."

F="eff"=Starts with vowel sound

Fail=Starts with "F"=consonant sound=needs 'a' not 'an'

It is so easy to mess with you little kids. F is not a word, but rather an abbreviation, so above rule does not apply. HTHXOXOLOLOMGROFL

"It is so easy to mess with you little kids."

You're not messing with any "little kids". You're embarassing yourself. The rule is meant to be consistent with SOUND, not spelling, so abbreviation or not, one letter or 10, the rule applies. Do a search on google for "got an F" and "got a F" and see how many people agree with you.

The above cited rule clearly limits its applicability to WORDS. F is a letter and an abbreviation, but it is certainly not a word. While such handles may make the complexities of grammar easier for you as you furrow your slope-browed, troglodite forehead, I will rest contented in the knowledge that I shall never receive a F.

Haha. How old are you? Seriously, there are 6 year old foreign kids learning this lesson in elementary school.

F is not an abbreviation for anything. F can just mean...F. It's a part of a grading scale, where NOTHING stands for anything. The fact that it also represents "failure" which also starts with an 'F' is merely coincidental. Even the dictionary notes that this usage of F is not an abbreviation, but a meaning of the standalone letter:

"f1 or F ( P ) Pronunciation Key (f)

n. pl. f's or F's also fs or Fs

5. A grade that indicates failing status. "

Go back to night school.

The whole point is moot to me, since my school doesn't gives F's, but E's instead. I've never gotten a E though.

The letter doesn't matter. A, B, C, D, E, F, Z...whatever. Rule still stands.

Are you in college or high school? If college, take another course to boost your GPA, that's what I'm doing (taking a summer course.) Take a really easy course that you know you'll do well in. That's really the only way I see going around redoing it. At my school they won't even let you redo a course unless it's required for your major, and even then I'm not sure if it replaces it entirely or averaged..However, if this is a high school course, you may be able to negotiate it with tact (hopefully.) I don't know the reason why you got an F but if it's anywhere legitimate (death in family, sickness, or even loss of motivation that severely crippled your grade in comparison to previous performance) you may be able to negotiate it easily.

I negotiated a grade with my polsci TA, because on the first exam I got a C+ and thereafter got B+s and As and so the rest of my grades didn't converge towards that first one in any way, and I asked if he would be able to take that into account when determining my final grade. I didn't just make up this policy though; the prof. said it would be acceptable in certain cases, so it was approved by the prof. and had to be brought up by my TA. So there may be a process you have to go through..

but otherwise the easiest way is just to a) retake the course or b) take another course that will bring up your GPA to a 3.0 or whatever you're aiming for.

hth.
