From a sales perspective, the PS1 crushed the N64 and it wasn't even close. This isn't open for debate.
From a games perspective, that really comes down to personal taste. The N64 library is small and totally lacking in a number of genres. With that said, I can respect someone who thinks the Top 10 or Top 20 N64 games are better than the Top 10 or Top 20 PS1 games. The N64 had some real hits.
But when you consider the Top 50 or Top 100 games of a console, the PS1 totally blows the N64 out of the water.

And I think that this is the crux of the matter. Sure, the Topic Post lists out the top 10 vs top 10 and it stacks up reasonably well (holes in my buddy's logic aside), but once you get into the Dino Crisis/Ace Combat/Parasite Eve/Legend of Mana tier of games, not to mention entire genres like fighters and 2d platformers (e.g. the entire Mega Man series), the N64 has no answer. Now I don't want to make this about Class or Clique or anything but video games were as or more expensive in the 90s than they are today when adjusting for inflation, and 50-game libraries on N64 weren't possible for most for a number of reasons - lack of games is often cited but lack of finances was a big one for N64 households. For the high-income gamer, the PS1 won no contest because of its deep bench of games across the full array of genres. This is why, imo, you see a Class or Clique Divide in fans of the fifth gen consoles, with many Preps and high-tier Nerds preferring PS1, with Losers being ambivalent, and Scumbags decisively preferring N64.
Also, I hate to bring this up, but ime the N64 was popular with a certain low-brow cohort of gamers. When I looked at stuff like WWF Warzone or Turok, I would just smirk, say, "thanks but no thanks," and go back to what I thought was the exclusive province of top-tier games for the gen, i.e. the PS1. Now, there was a point where I fell in with a crowd who were big on FPSs like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, and I'm friends with some of these types to this day, but I have to say it was jarring to play with four people on one screen. I thought at the time that it just meant that they couldn't afford multiple TVs (and perhaps I was right). I always preferred to System Link, which I would often do with friends in my neighborhood (decidedly upper-middle class). Anecdotally, many of my N64 friends have died from opiate overdoses or are working low-wage jobs, even if they have college degrees because they lack the necessary job interview skills. My PS1 friends are all UMC professionals with high incomes/GPAs but this speaks to the type of stratification we have in society that stacks the deck against the lower classes. This is not a value judgment per se, but just a fact of life and has informed my life-long commitment to the Democratic Party. To be clear, I never thought I was above playing with four people on one screen, I just mean that it wasn't for me, although I could tolerate it if I was among friends.

Buddy, I love the N64. I have some amazing memories playing it in the 90s, albeit with kids from a different economic strata. Did I have a strong preference for System Link with two separate televisions? Absolutely. Did I also prefer LAN gaming? You bet. Did I think that splitting one television four ways was poverty-spec, so to speak? No question. Still, good times were had by all, generally by real salt-of-the-earth types who comprised Nintendo's fanbase in the U.S. at the time.
Now, I've said in the past that I'm not big on wrestling games so I'll give you that. Frankly I found that a lot of N64 kids would re-enact the moves and get themselves suspended from school, harming their GPAs. Meanwhile, a lot of my PS1 friends and I were always brainstorming ways to defeat the Weapons or to unlock the entire map in SOTN - cerebral tasks which were, anecdotally, out of the wheelhouse of the typical N64 intellect at the time, in my circle (again, anecdotally). By the way, isn't it funny how PS1 had a Metroid(vania) game, and N64 didn't? The same goes for lots of things that the SNES had, but the N64 didn't.
As for the Dinosaurs, well, I never thought much of Turok as an FPS tbh, it seemed like one of those hard af games with iffy gameplay, plus Goldeneye (and Medal of Honor) was so much better imo. I certainly prefer Dino Crisis but that's just me (and most people probably, based on Sales).
As for Sports, this goes all the way back to OP - my buddy groups all of these games together as like one sort of mono-game for some reason. I guess it helps his "argument" haha.
