Date: January 28th, 2022 3:05 AM Author: Trip Narrow-minded University Lettuce a busy catholic church will have between 3 to 5 masses a day. usually 7am (workmos), 9am (retired boomers), 12:15ish (work crowd on lunch), 7pm (evening).
they will be open during the day. since covid i've noticed many have a more thriving eucharistic adoration practice so people come and just chill.
confessions vary. some places offer every day, some only on saturdays/by appointment.
funerals/weddings/etc.
some parishes are not very busy and basically open on weekends only. ymmv. |

In the 80s: There would be a weekday morning mass daily. Active parishes would sometimes have two (630AM and 8AM). These were wonderful, quiet, pared down masses for the business crowd. Mostly a scattering of white collar men who were meditative before work.
There would often be a noontime daily mass for lunchtime crowd.
In very active parishes there would sometimes be an evening event. This or that small group might be meeting: AA, guided meditation, knights of columbus. On Weds or Thurs that weekend's wedding might do a walk through with bride groom and parents. But afternoons and evenings were often empty.
For Catholics Thursday night is a bigger deal (holy thursday), so some active parishes had pretty good attendance at Thursday night masses, esp in Lent. In Lent there is more going on, like stations of the cross, etc. Some parishes host a scheduled Confession time during the week.
Modern day: some parishes still offer one morning mass, sometimes its only twice or thrice a week. Some have none. The noon mass is hard to find outside city centers like MFH. Covid killed all evening activities.
Also, if there is a catholic school attached, the school sometimes has school masses during the school day or parent groups in the evening. |
