I saw this first hand in Vietnam when I tried to buy a bicycle. Vietnam had good domestic bikes that didn't rust out, until they got flooded with Chinese bikes that cost $20. The Chinese bikes were made with shitty metal that rusted after the first rain shower, but they were half the price of cheapest Vietnamese bikes so overnight they became the only bikes you could buy

Then China lit into cement and glass. That shouldn't be a big deal except that every building in Asia is made with cement and glass (rebar is optional). Overnight no country could sustain its domestic cement and glass industries because China flooded the market. They knew exactly what industries to target too. This was in the late 90s

china does what is good for china. other countries need to develop strategies to do what is good for them. the us is currently incapable of long term strategies, and that needs to change.
