It is basically untenable at this point. Noone smart believes it anymore. There is still a broad landscape of positions regarding mind and we aren't about to solve the "hard problem" although we are getting close to finally asking the right questions for the first time. But "dualism" has revealed itself to be low iq and likely impossible, not through philosophy but even through empirical evidence

Yeah but it has moved into something that only a drooling retard can believe. The pharmacological evidence has made it completely untenable. That phenomenal quality is parametrically modulated by physical changes. Not toggled but smoothly varied and dose dependent. This basically makes dualism totally untenable, and even makes functionalism very uncomfortable. The fact that physical dynamics matter to qualitative character in ways that pure computational description can't capture.

There's also no actual reason to believe that dualism is true (and there never was)

Like I remember thinking through all of this back in college for the first time and dualism just never made any "sense" to me. It seemed to be wishcasting by men who still wanted to subscribe to the epistemology of Christianity despite not actually believing in it anymore

yeah but even christianity doesn't believe in dualism in the cartesian sense really. its mostly just various cross translations of various ancient and medieval folk metaphors. A lot of what gets mistaken for "dualism" in the cartesian substance sense is more just the cross translation of various concepts embedded in greek, latin, and hebrew before there was even a concept for "dualism" like that. Maybe Christians are more likely to believe it but its also not just that. It is more just a general emotional attachment to accepting folk-knowledge and mysticism

In my experience, genuine belief in Dualism is almost always connected to at least a nebulous belief in the Christian immortal soul

People don't always understand that's why they "believe in" "Dualism," but that's basically always why ime

Not a dualist. But my sense is that it isn't unreasonable to believe there is something deeper going on under the surface of things. If for no other reason than everything is built from the same underlying fundamental building blocks. I've always felt a bit like things return to "the source" after life ends and then perhaps become something else.

yeah that sounds closer to mysterianism. not that its magical but that there is something deeper underlying it or beyond what humans could explain. it might not be wrong, but it still could be just due to the terrain still being murky to fully resolve. I think its more likely that we will converge on multiple underlying systems that have classically gotten conflated all under one placeholder category. Separation even of mind and experience is an important one that feels obvious but is overlooked in the theoretical landscape more than you would think.

Never heard of mysterianism, though I think I understand what you are saying. I think there is much beyond what we can explain and that it's ok.

My own pet theory is that God reveals deeper truths to us in language that we can understand, and through tools that we have access to, in our current place and time.

And people will knock and laugh at things like synchronicity, but there are experiences that feel as though there is something deeper going on. All of which can be true even if everything exists only in the "physical" world. (Which itself seems to emerge from underlying fields.)

yeah I feel like that sometimes too. synchronicities i'm not really sure on but I sometimes think its odd that everytime you encounter a new concept or idea it suddenly shows up everywhere in a way that can't simply be explained by overfitting due to it being brought into your attention. I have seen explanations that say its basically a combination between recognizing stuff you didnt see before due to salience overfitting, and it genuinely altering your path toward directions that contain new things you happen to be learning, like you reorient yourself toward those things where you didn't before but I still don't really find that satisfying. I think that overlaps with what some people experience as "synchronicities".

It's not like this is something I think about often, but it is genuinely puzzling when I notice it. it's not mysticism just curiosity.

Yes, I agree with this. And with some things, it can feel a bit like the universe is being created in real time for you. It is weird.

I'd also argue that there are much deeper synchronicities that a person can experience. It is altogether possible that our subconscious is even more powerful than we realize, allowing us to pursue things, people, paths that are "meant" for us. And maybe if you do this to the furthest extent you get to wake up in the Pleiades after exiting this gay Earth.

trialism, where one of the basic substances is phenotype? or is this one of those iq is a flat circle cases

I think phenotype in the cowgodian sense, while clearly tanxomonic not converging on natural kinds, is still describing genuine morphological structure, however compressed and metaphorical. I think its premature to call them substance though. Could easily be emergent from complex organizational relationships between mind and clique. Denying them outright makes you a Joke these days.

Duality is the ineluctable condition of the universe.

From physics, light is both particle and wave.

In theology, God who is the Creator of all things created both good and evil.

And of course, Jesus Christ was both God and Man.

Can we have it both ways? A contradiction in terms? Sure, that's just the way it is.

Mysterians stay winning but it's because we can't fix "dualism", all this shit Kant pointed out are antinomies - we have tiny pink brains that can't synthesize basic truths that contradict each other
