I will describe it.
A monkey ambled out of the jungle where a guy was waiting in the road. The guy has a big bunch of juicy grapes. He gives them to the monkey, who devours them at once. The monkey then ambles back toward the jungle, but before he vanishes in the undergrowth the monkey grabs a handful of leaves from a specific tree, sniffs them, then chews the leaves thoroughly and spits them out. He then walks away.
Why does the monkey chew those leaves? I believe it is because his monkey buddies will notice the smell of sweet grapes on his breath unless he masks it. And for whatever reason the consequences of his monkey buddies knowing he just had an incredible treat would not be good for our monkey hero. That is my theory. And according to YouTube I am alone in this belief about what was going on.
Consider what this means for self awareness and theory of mind. Consider what this means for all of us as a species not far removed from that monkey.

i rented a house with several people one summer during college, and one of the girls who rented with us had a cat. the cat wasn't allowed outside in the yard/garden except if supervised, and the girl usually took him outside once per day.
the cat figured out that that he could 'ask' other people to take him outside at different times, but he would only do this on a daily basis rather than constantly. so if i took the cat outside and brought him back in, he would not 'ask' me to go outside again on that day, and would only bother people who had not yet taken him outside.
i found that kind of interesting, since it implies that he was able to track people and time-frames in a particular way.
