$70 and $80 games are unacceptable and I don’t care what inflation charts say

Can’t you read? Nintendo fans are lower income and have been disproportionately impacted by recent events such as the pandemic and layoffs.

https://gamerant.com/study-playstation-gamers-earn-more-money-pc-xbox/
The study found that among those surveyed, PlayStation gamers were earning the most with an average salary of $62,276, followed by Nintendo at $60,527. On average, PlayStation gamers' salaries were 12% higher than PC players and 4% more than Xbox. However, those who played on any game system at all were found to have $5,451 higher salaries than those who didn't.

You’re going to want to sit down for this, champ, but middle class starts at like $400,000k not at $100,000k. You can barely afford Games let alone a decent property.

After tax, I pull around 32k a year, and I can say definitively that getting 50k instead would be an absolute life changer.
Huge difference. It would mean a lot to us.

Let me guess — things took a turn for the worse when the republicans took congress?

Ever since the republicans took congress in ‘94, things have been going downhill both for Nintendo and the country. SNES games at $60 in the 90s were seen as affordable. N64 at $70 for 3rd party titles was far too much but still affordable bc the middle class hasn’t been destroyed yet Now with Obamacare subsidies expiring and the government shut down and republicans in control of congress, things are not looking good for nintendo fans imho.

Nintendo fans have been disproportionately impacted by the republican caucus. Sony fans have always been richer, both in terms of money and intellectually. Their consoles are more expensive. Their games are more mature and I’m not talking about violence. Gran Turismo is a serious simulator about mechanical Engineering that looks superficially like a racing game. MGS1-2 taught us an entirely new way to look at the world. Death Stranding predicted the pandemic. And these same fans are the types who would donate to Clinton in the 90s in order to split the Left and disenfranchise the working poor. Sure, Xbox fans have it worse still by most statistical metrics but they lack class consciousness. They don’t understand that they are the Refuse of society.

Agreed, thats too much money to compete for our other needs like food, housing, gas, energy, water, etc.
I can support work of others and gladly pay the premium for a well done product, but a hike is a hike and I dont support this massive wealth transfer to lazy stockholders

Inflation is an increase in the money supply which manifests as too much money chasing too few goods. It’s measured via metrics like CPI which greatly understate how expensive housing has become.

Ok but do you realize that it also is a direct measurement of the rate of decreased/increased buying power of a dollar? Do you understand that when there is more money in circulation, money is worth less? Because you literally say "inflation has fuck all to do with buying power" in your OP.

When the newly created money is disproportionately put into the hands of the wealthy or of owners of particular consoles, it contributes to inequality. Nintendo fans have lost ground versus players of other platforms in recent years. Inequality has hit them harder. Nintendo fans are more inclined to want to make the world a better place whereas Xbox fans want to watch the world burn, as is evident in their choices of Games. Nintendo fans are more likely to be victimized by capitalism and its proponents and carry higher student loan balances.

Nintendo definitely lost a lot of the goodwill they accumulated over the Switch 1 lifecycle by jacking up the prices. I understand that prices go up due to inflation. But there are more factors at play for what’s going on here.
These price hikes just feel more like greed than a business necessity. It feels like arrogance. To charge $70 for the Super Mario Galaxy 2-pack, or Switch 2 version of Breath of the Wild?
Remember when Nintendo Selects was a thing? Reducing the MSRP after a game had been on the market for several years was a great, consumer-friendly gesture back in the previous console generations. And it probably brought in a lot of money too.
There is so much saturation in the video game space these days. I’d wager Nintendo could possibly earn more revenue by selling some of their older catalog games at a cheaper price point like they used to be in the habit of doing, but Nintendo seems to have this unwarranted pride and arrogance in themselves, especially lately. Obviously, they know their first-party games are locked in to their own hardware, so I guess they just feel like they can get away with charging whatever they want, because consumers have no other choice.
But a company has to be honest about the reality of the present times. More and more people are struggling financially. Does that mean we’re all entitled to just automatically afford a fancy new video game system? Of course not. But shedding all your goodwill is also not necessarily smart from a business perspective.
I don’t know.

Afaik most of the “struggle” has been in the US since the republican caucus took congress and the presidency and adopted tariffs. It’s my understanding that Canada, and the PAL region are doing better than ever atm because of good common-sense governance and single payer healthcare.
