i would say nd is overrated, but having just watched clemson im reminded that preseason rankings are complete horseshit anyway.
ND overachieved last year and largely caught lightning in a bottle over the playoff run. The loss of that safety to the nfl (forgot his name, but wore 0) is a big loss. He was the most dominant safety in cfb imo, and basically shut down 60% of most opposing offenses just bc no one could go deep.
this is not to mention ND defense lost the best coordinator on either side of the ball in Golden.
I think their defense takes a major step back. On offense, they have a generational talent in love, who is not a big guy, injury prone, and likely wont make it through 17 games or whatever is now required to reach the championship.
i heard the QB battle was close, which could be a good sign that they have multiple talented QBs but more often means no one really stood out.
So ND is possibly starting a QB who is new, not ready, and on the road in conditions completely unlike south bend. They have a great but fragile RB who for whatever reason they often ignore. And they have a defense that will be worse than last year, maybe a lot worse.
I like ND but this is a very losable game for them.
On the plus side, da U has not found a way to build a team out of their recruits in twenty years and I dont think they start this year, by bringing in a QB who has no chemistry with the program. Also a losable game.
Miami takes the win, merely due to homefield advantage, and all their recruits playing HS in swamp conditions
