They live completely different lives in far flung corners of the country. These are their only grandchildren. Their other relationships have dissolved and their other issue have expired. It’s kind of odd to me that they cannot even muster a passing acknowledgment, even if pregnant with indifference. The lack of response almost suggests to me that the children’s photos has given them a fright—perhaps it’s the passing of time? Perhaps it’s a reminder that they do not have a strong relationship with their own kin due their past indiscretions and personal failings? Perhaps they are sick or otherwise infirm.
