If you're careful, then for now you can still evade the surveillance capabilities of a state level actor. But the target only has to fuck up one time and inadvertently communicate in a non-secure way, then the whole thing unravels. What's more, the fuck up can also come from some other person messaging them. Narco careers can last decades, and nobody can be perfect every time. Just like sometimes lawfags make a stupid mistake and send a .doc when they meant to send a .pdf or whatever the fuck, a mistake will also inevitably occur in the proximity of the kingpins. It's just a matter of the $ and manpower to actually give things a close look. |

- Datamining cell tower connections and usage patterns: "Wow, this subset of phones that frequently connect to towers in the HQ area light up when we raid a major shipment!" - Looking at the IMEIs connecting and scrutinizing make/model/voice or data usage: "Wow, a ton of people in this town use blackberries, i haven't seen one used by a normal person in 10 years!" - Blackberry is suspected to collaborate with friendly governments, even if the cartels are setting up their own enterprise servers. |
