highlights were:
Lost (Maladjusted-era b-side - super deep cut. i know it well, but nobody did and after it ended he said "yeah, yeah, i know nobody knows that one"
The Loop (fairly well known single from like 1991 when he was entering his rockabilly phase)
Jack the Ripper (180 and very well known single from 1991-92 i think)
I Won't Share You (off Smiths' Strangeways Here We Come - allegedly about his gay obsession with Johnny Marr)
Alma Matters - very well known album track off Maladjusted, but it's such a good song that seeing him do it reminded me of how great that album is. i first saw him on the Maladjusted tour and that brings back great memories. he was 38 then and i thought "wow, how's he still doing this at that old age, i wonder if he'll retire soon" lmao.
he did a total of 7 songs (out of 19). the setlist was overall wonderful. i tuned out around "you are the quarry" in 2004 (i bought that one, listened a few times and was like nah this is the same shit, i'm good). he did only 4 post-quarry songs, which i liked. he knows what his great material is and focuses on that.
i have to say, his performances are always great, but i think because the audience was so muted, this one seemed a bit blah. also should point out that it was a seated venue. i think that makes a difference. and i was way up in the nosebleeds (venue isn't massive, but was still far away).
i've seen him 11-12 times by now - several on the 1997 Maladjusted tour, 2-3 times in 2000 when he did a tour between albums, once in 2013, once in 2018 and last night. i have to say last night was the most underwhelming performance. still good tho.
