Looking to get a basic oyster perpetual or Datejust. Not super price sensitive but don't want to buy a fake one off some random secondary market site. My understanding is its next to impossible to get an authorised dealer to sell me one?

Don't think it's dumb. I'm lucky to be quietly rich and don't even plan to wear It much. I think its worth having bc it holds value and if I ever get in trouble, dump it for cash or trade it for something.

here's a fun story about holding value: i bought a used but very clean yellow gold day date from bob's watches in 2020 for 14k. i tried to sell it back to them 6 months ago and they offered me 12k. they sell them now for ~20k. gold is up 100% in that time.

i bought a very nice replica daytona for $800 a couple years ago and sold it for $700 recently.

TY. I know you are very knowledgeable about watches. I'm low key rich and just plan to keep it around for nice events and otherwise in a safe. I view it as a decent bargaining chip if society starts collapsing bc of all that libs have done to our society. Which model do you recommend?

Why would a luxury watch have special value during a collapse?

Wouldn't you be better off with pure gold or silver?

Most ADs will sell you those without much hassle. It's only the Sub/GMT/Daytona types that they make you jump through hoops for.

In terms of popularity/desirability?

The professional models, especially the Sub/GMT/Daytona/Yachtmaster are the most desirable right now.

Other models like the datejust or day-date can be desirable based on their configuration.

Then you have models like the explorer, milgaus, air king and sea-dweller that appeal to a very specific buyer.

Ebay has best prices. I'd go used. Look for a seller with lots of sales and 100% feedback. Almost all rolexes will have ebay authenticity guaranty. Then take it to a watch store where they can open it up to confirm authenticity and check the water resistance. There's still some risk they won't catch a superclone, but if you buy an older model used 36mm datejust with some scratches, it's pretty unlikely to be a fake when a scammer could make a lot more selling a fake new model sub.

Not necessarily. Depends on your build and wrist/hand size. Anything under 40mm looks kinda dinky on me.
