the stuff that most people "do" to "earn" a living is what catholic apocrypha from the medieval era and the renaissance describes as the predilections of voyeuristic daemons
endless counting and sorting tasks. picking at and splitting hairs on a balance or inventory sheet. the actual "value" produced is from having a captive ass in a seat for Boss to ram whenever he or his higher ups feel like it

Think of how much "work" is just a giant orgy of artificial labor where yourself and 30 other freaks pass around the same MSFT document on a big email chain
Some of that stuff is actually legitimate though. Even "law" is valid work if it's animated by the right spirit (it scarcely is). So is admin work for that matter
Recently I saw a testimony from a bigbox store worker talking about how her job for the last couple of months has just been breaking her back picking up inventory from one side of the warehouse and moving it to the other. This portion of inventory is there mostly as a reserve of common goods and she suspected that her higher-ups had her doing it because it resembles the typical legitimate work (logistics) but she was salaried and they wanted her in the place of labor regardless of actual need for her typical professional work
Why. Who would sign off on this? If it's an existential threat to your business or your model of labor that an otherwise productive employee takes home their rounding error pittance for true to speech backbreaking labor for a couple of weeks what are you doing? This is bizarre alien invasion type shit. Void of humanity. And I'm sure her vertebrae aren't thanking her for tolerating it
