The hottest take is defending a genre that the body politic writes off completely. Like if I speak to the cinematic virtues of The Last Kiss or Terms of Endearment then the board will just blink, turn away, and go to a long subthread about the State of Tarantino. Or explaining to normies that Terrance Malick movies just have images and narration and that’s it and stop being confused ffs. I can’t think of a true hot take except of the audience is primed to pounce on you or ignore you.

Taken as a whole, the Marvel movies from Iron Man 1 through Endgame were an impressive accomplishment. Just an incredible, consistent, run and masterclass in universe building. Especially considering how everything involving superheroes that came before was so poorly executed.

Shame that, like almost everything else from finance to sports franchises, they couldn’t help themselves and killed that golden goose. I don’t know that I’ll ever watch any of them again.

Many people are saying this.

It only worked when there was a Singular Vision for the entire franchise. I think Jon Favreau had a lot to do with it.

It's really hard in a giant corporation to entrust someone who can pull it all together like that. And it's rare to even find a guy with the capability of doing so.

Unless you're a Film Nerd who only cares about art films I think most people recognize that Iron Man through Endgame was a masterpiece. I've seen every one of them despite not really caring all that much about it. I had a gf who got me into it. I never would watch one of these by my own volition neither would I listen to a Justin Bieber record for pleasure. But admittedly these movies are good and Bieber has some good tunes. Despite the Purists out there deriding the genre, sober minds know it was a Triumph of sorts.

Best ones are Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Maybe Thor Ragnarok as well. And possibly the best installment of all, the original Iron Man. Worst one was Thor 2 The Dark World.

I say this as someone who adores dogme 95 and Annapurna films. I mostly watch indie art house shit.

Frank is not literally saying that Waterworld is a great film. He is saying that in the FLW/Pleasureman/MPC Cinematic Universe it's cool to dunk on modern pop culture (Batman, MCU sucks) and bring up how in the 80s there was a romanticized masculine mythos (Waterworld, Point Break, Top Gun, Escape from New York) that was abought Strong Men who Don't Talk Much going around blowing things up and scoring with Babes. If you're familiar with MPC and their backstory this makes sense. Frank's entire persona is about being hardo who is too good for this world mostly because he's too tough and strong and too much of a badass for this planet. Read between the lines but that's why I'm here to educate.

It’s a triumph. But that’s not really a hot take.

A hot take would be that it’s maybe the only movie directed by a female that’s worth watching.

Here's a few:

Batman Begins is a better movie start to finish than The Dark Knight. TDK has better sequences and characters, but Batman Begins is a much tighter, better plotted movie.

Similarly Inception is Nolan's best movie by far. The script is perfect - you can tell its the script he rewrote over 10 years. Movie snobs hate it because narratively its perfect - they prefer "challenging" movies like Interstellar where the resolution is just "Uh...he uses a magic watch to transmit love across the universe" or Oppenheimer "let's throw in a weird sex scene" "let's have the bomb go off halfway through the movie and then have people argue about a security clearance he doesn't need for the last 90 minutes."

Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean is probably the best performance of the last 20 years and the Academy Awards needs to stop awarding acting jobs where actors cry/lose weight/struggle/do an impersonation of a famous musician. The best example of this is Robert Downey Jr, who was never nominated for Iron Man - a character who anchored $20 billion worth of movies - but then he won for his supporting role in Oppenheimer - not because he was far and way the best supporting actor that year, but in large part, because he had a pretty good performance and the Academy wanted to reward him for all his work on Iron Man and what it did to the movie industry. Why not just give him the award for Iron Man?

All of these takes suck or are common imo.

Every Loser Film buff prefers Batman Begins but the villains don’t really sell it imho.

Inception is probably the most popular Nolan Film.

The Academy has 10,000k members. You aren’t going to get that many of them to vote for a capeshit performance. The whole point of having an awards show is to take themselves overly seriously and to market Serious Films imho.

This is very feminine energy.

Batman Begins is literally an hour too long and drags like hell.

Inception is incredibly dumb unless you're a woman or a child. The whole premise is corny and stupid.

Also no film buffs like Interstellar it's widely regarded as pure shit.

Oppenheimer was a Triumph and the Academy has always been full of artfags who prefer drama over blockbusters.

Gbti and/or refill your tampons.

It's so spicy it's wrong. I'll give you a better one. Godfather II is overrated. People who say it's better than the original are wrong. First of all, the original is the greatest movie ever made. And secondly, if you watch the version on the DVD with the Robert DeNiro scenes taken out the main plot is stupid.

The Young Vito sequence is extremely simple but powerful. It's not incredible storytelling but it is emotionally impactful and worthy. But the Michael vs Fredo plot is just a mess. I actually think there's some good stuff in there but it's too drawn out. It 100% gets too slow and boring. By the end no one cares about the hooker in Vegas with the Senator and the guy slitting his wrists before he testifies and who the hell is Hyman Roth? Anyway it's like a decent 8/10 could have been cut for time. OG Godfather is a flawless Film. Part III is an unwatchable turd.

eh I've heard this said about Part 2 before. I like long slow talky movies so what most people critique about them is actually a feature to me. But I can see how Part 2 is a bit overrated, I like Apocalypse Now better than any Godfather anyway.

Not only that but it also rides Godfather 1's coattails. It's interesting because the first movie exists. You have to give the first Film credit for that. Not enough people do this but they should.

The Fredo stuff also gets too dark btw and there's no real "point" to it arguably. I think you could read into it though, and it's possible that Michael would blame Fredo being a Joke for getting the Don shot to begin with (and sucking too much in general to take over) and leaving him no recourse but to get involved in the mafia life, but idk there were several assailants. obviously this is Loser conjecture and not what anyone intended. Btw I think it benefits from a bit of verisimilitude just from having an Ashkenazi Jew be the villain.

The villain doesn't turn up til the very end. It doesn't make any sense that Fredo would betray his brother. He was given a good racket. The first Film has so many iconic New York scenes. In Part II they're in Reno which is a Shithole and it looks like they're all shopping at Wal-Mart all of a sudden. All the Nevada scenes are gay. What any of this has to do with the Cuban Revolution is beyond me.

Also there's a Plot Hole bc the blinds were unexplainably open in the bedroom. Only Losers care about Plot Holes btw.

Anyway yeah it kind of makes no sense because he wouldn't get shit if Michael were killed, the capos would just kill or ignore him, Frank Pentangeli or someone would take over. So basically he was relying on the Jew to give him money or casinos as a Reward lol.

Bohemian Rhapsody is the only clearly anti-LGBTQ mainstream movie in decades.

Freddie is married, happy, surrounded by friends, healthy, in a highly successful band, etc.

Decides to suck a dick in a truckstop bathroom and the rest of the film is him losing his friends, losing his band, being lonely, begging people to spend time with him, being miserable and unhappy, getting AIDS and dying.

The old band members had too much creative control for sugar coated slop.
