General Óscar Arriola, chief commander of Peru's National Police, revealed that officer third-class Luis Magallanes was responsible for the shooting which killed the 32-year-old rapper Eduardo Ruiz, aka Trvko.
"The man responsible for the shooting is officer third-class Luis Magallanes of the Office of Criminal Investigation, and is not associated with the Terna Group of the National Police," he stated.
Arriola indicated that Magallanes acted on his own, outside the orders of the National Police, and that both he and his partner have been detained.
"In the footage, you can see the other policeman who approached, and, upon seeing a wounded person, left in the direction of Magallanes. Both are currently in custody."
Arriola also stated that the direct commanders of the officers would be dismissed from service.
"The judicial office of the Public Ministry, according to its administrative inquiries, has decided to remove from command the officers directly in charge of the scene, both in relation to orders issued yesterday and special actions regarding which there will be a thorough investigation," he described.
Officer Luis Magallanes, who has been identified as the rapper's killer, remains at Luis Sáenz hospital with multiple injuries. Meanwhile, following investigations carried out by the chief of the police homicide department, prosecutors have been provided with a report regarding the incident.
The police commander emphasized that the investigation would be carried out by the public prosecutor, and that the events were completely isolated from official orders.
Additionally, Óscar Arriola restated his condolences on behalf of the National Police toward the family and friends of the fallen rapper.
"May God keep him in His glory; we ask for forgiveness on behalf of our 140,000 officers," he added before ending the press conference.
