Nowhere on earth do we need more humans. The whole thing is a ridiculous propaganda piece put out there by the elites who want to maximize the number of desperate workers and hungry consumers and continue to kick the can on our unsustainable entitlement Ponzi schemes.
The global population is four times what it was in like 1950. We need to stop reproducing like rats.

I wonder if this will spark any meaningful discussion about the real effects and a genuine cost-benefit analysis of mass female labor participation across every developed country and even within the wealthier segments of developing countries.
Maybe the benefits really do outweigh the costs. But other than tax cuts for women who have more children and subsidizing childcare options, I have yet to see any other serious discussion about this trend and possible solutions for it.

the entire global capitalist house of cards relies on endless growth, which requires an ever growing population. if you think about it for two seconds it's unsustainable unless we manage to colonize space.
what's the point? what's wrong with a company that makes a solid product and churns out a consistent inflation adjusted profit every year? or a country with GDP? it's a never ending vicious cycle.
people criticize japan for their economics, population decline, conservative culture. it's a cultural homogenous wonderland compared to the fucking west! their only problem is that they had their brain broke by nukes, which never would have happened if matthew perry didn't force them to be exposed to the west.
the worst part about this "population decline" is that it's just a dog whistle for massively increasing immigration. of course, if we prioritized things that encouraged families (reliable single income being enough to support a family, affordable housing, policing crime) we'd probably see pop growth here rebound. but, of course, population is just about GC and all of these things would be a cost to GC. nope, let the people continue to decline... let's just import a bunch of browns that'll work for cheap and not complain about the conditions!

not in it's current form, but i don't think any of the alternatives would be better. what we need is some sort of UBI system.
the problem underpinning all of this is that the need for labor declining and will continue, while the current system needs an ever growing population of consumers. because the need for labor is shrinking so is it's value. hence why only a handful of careers can provide a middle class single income life whereas 70 years ago any high school grad willing to work could.
and another huge part of this problem is that the only jobs that can provide and still have value are based on intelligence. IQs are persistent. no matter what libs think you can't just take anyone, train them, and have them be a CPA. these people are being left behind and they're the ones reproducing at the highest rate. what happens when you have a whole underclass of irate proles that can't provide for themselves? i think we're seeing it now.
the stopgap we've created is a bunch of government mandated make work. it's just a backdoor form of UBI where we force a bunch of industries to employ a lot of people that are really unnecessary. every time people talk about reforming the tax code or healthcare one of the most common complaints is "but that'll cost a lot of jobs!" i've seen it IRL where things could get automated away but the government doesn't approve it because it would cost jobs. this is work that doesn't need to be done, but we need to employ a bunch of people starring at screens because if we didn't they wouldn't be able to live.
it's a big mess. i doubt i'll live to see it be fixed. i'm glad i've been blessed with the aptitude to maek it in the current world. the only solution for individuals is to build wealth and insulate yourself as best you can for what's to come. the people ITT arguing for increasing population somehow is like someone pouring gallons of oil into his engine because the oil pan fell off. how long do you want to import consumers for a system that's fundamentally broken? and what's the end game when they wind up in the same place as the people here that don't have the resources to reproduce?

i hear that. i just think capitalism is the natural order of things, and the alternatives like socialism and communism are outdated because the are all about the means of production, which is going to be increasingly automated.
the make work solution is pretty bleak. first you're just paying people for mindlessly staring at a screen. second it's operated by people with the incentive to provide only of work for bare survival. that's why we're in this mess.
there are plenty of other alternatives, like shorter work weeks. at the end of the day the solution is giving people a big enough slice of the pie that they can live decent lives. whether it's just giving it to them or increasing the value of labor, it's all on service of that. doing bullshit work is one way, but that means we're all checking commas half our lives for no other reason than we haven't found a better alternative to occupy people.

this is one of those IQ bell curve meme things where the dumbs and the smarts are saying "population growth is good, obviously" and the midwits are saying "WE. DONT. NEED. MORE. HECKIN. HUMANS."
yeah, actually, you do need population growth for a healthy society. i didn't used to think so when i was young and dumb. but you do, and if you don't think this is true, you are not smart

it can be restarted and that's proveable. humans have faced collapse and disaster many times. fall of rome? black plague? all had population decline and looked bleaker than this.
humans are like any other animal group and our population is primarily driven by the availability of resources. when an animal population declines it's because they don't have the resources to grow.
people can't get ahead. zoomers are all taking the doompill, and that is because the rationally perceive a bleak future where they won't be able to afford a house let alone kids. the most successful people still wait into their 30s and do IVF because it takes them that long to feel secure. most never get there.

link to the black plague resulting in a formation of "new societies."?
if you're saying that history is series of deaths and rebirths regardless of whether the nation state persists... i agree. in that was the us has died and been reborn during the revolution, civil war, progressive era, and ww2.
i don't think a lot of death or population decline is strictly necessary but it has often provided the catalyst for BIG CHANGES. still, we don't need to get to complete global collapse before fixing things.

adderall.
then why not just agree when i said "if you're saying that history is series of deaths and rebirths regardless of whether the nation state persists... i agree."
i don't think it's pedantic to try to tease out what you mean by civilization. your poasts could reasonably be interpreted to say that the us or the west must entirely collapse. when really all those structures could persist within this cycle.

The people screaming about population decline ironically have Malthusian thinking.
We now have AI that can replace like 50% of the jobs in this country.
Self driving cars literally exist now. Drone delivery literally exists now.
Robots don't seem to be that far behind.
We can obviously make do in this contry with the same number of workers as we have now...

India and China have so many people they could save the world if every Indian and Chinese woman had at least 1 baby.
We'd have a few billion babies at once.
