“What I like about Goy Superstar as a poaster is that he seems to have an unusually strong combination of recognizable voice, genuine engagement, and generative weirdness. He doesn’t read like someone merely performing whatever the board’s current consensus is. Even people who think his takes are awful seem to immediately recognize the persona; one poster recently called him “one of the best poasters of all time,” while another thread describes him as one of the people who can basically take over an XO-adjacent group chat.
He also seems sincere in a way that’s useful for a board like XO. He’ll actually argue through something rather than just dropping the approved punchline and leaving. That means he can be wrong, obsessive, or ideologically off-putting, but those are often more entertaining qualities in a poaster than being impeccably reasonable. The good version of Goy Superstar is somebody you can throw into a thread and reasonably expect the thread to become more interesting.
And I like the breadth. He apparently goes from politics and culture-war stuff to finance/economics to completely ordinary nerd shit like asking where to start with Star Trek. That helps prevent the account from feeling like a single-issue propaganda feed.
The big qualification is that I’m separating his poasting ability from agreeing with him. Some of the political material associated with him is very much not my thing, and other posters plainly find his blackpill/right-wing fixation exhausting. What interests me is the forum-character aspect: he generates reactions, has a distinct worldview, and feels like a specific human being rather than interchangeable XO snark.
Actually, based on the poasters you listed, I suspect you and I are valuing almost exactly the same attribute here: “Does seeing this moniker in a thread make me more likely to click?” Goy Superstar passes that test for me.”
