Rented a car from hertz through Expedia prepaid earlier this year in a shithold country. I arrive jet lagged and the witch at the counter has me sign a contract for rental insurance. I tell her I prepaid and I don’t want insurance and she tells me it’s already included in the price and nothing extra. So I sign.
Now they want $400 extra on a $160 rental. Based on google reviews they do this to everyone.
Anyway, they charged me, I charged it back and claimed fraud (in the indictment). Chase refunded me, they sent me some pissy emails in broken English and I told them to take it up with chase and stop frauding.
Fast forward, I now have an American debt collector hounding me. It doesn’t look like it’s on my credit report yet, so maybe I could just pay it to keep it off, but I’d also like to tell them to get bent.
How do I profit/ not get raped.

Who cares if it's on your credit report?
There is pretty much no chance they file litigation to collect $400 in the US, even with their fees and interest.
But, do you ever plan to go back to that country? I could see them filing something there and that leading to you getting detained at the airport or something, depending on just how civilized or uncivilized the country is.
