it took me a long time to figure out that old people are just intrinsically evil
this isn't a property of boomers in particular. old people are just evil by definition. they are always parasitic on the productive and the beautiful and the fertile. pre modern cultures actually understood this, i.e. hansel and gretel
technology keeping old people alive is a huge problem and it's only going to get worse going forward. i suspect that we may need to Shut It Down

“Elder worship” is a vestige of the past when surviving to old age represented a serious accomplishment. To achieve old age, you had to be knowledgeable about plants, weather, navigation, animal routines, etc. You had to be skilled at some kind of conflict resolution, be it fighting or diplomacy or forging compromises. You were a wealth of knowledge for the people around you and represented an incredible resource.
Today, the opposite is true. Longevity is the default, and anyone can curl up in their house and make it to infirmity (barring bad luck like cancer). The adventurers and thrill seekers and others who have pushed human progress are now the ones who absorb all the risks and die early. There’s no point in worshipping your elders when their advice and life lessons are to just casually exist in safety.

no i'm 100% serious about the elderly being intrinsically evil
death is a part of the human condition. when you get old, it's time to fucking die. if you don't, you become parasitic on the rest of the human collective
people did absolutely understand this in the past, and had appropriate attitudes toward aging and death. elders have always been tyrannical when left unchecked. filial piety (as a general sentiment) does not contradict this; it calls for the honoring of ancestors, not the elderly in particular

i know people like this personally. they choose to only expose themselves to information and experiences that validate this Shitlib Cinematic Universe worldview. it's deliberate and self-serving. they're the most detestable people in the world today
not trying to be edgy but the only hypothetical way to deal with these people is to Year Zero them, pol pot style. i mean we just have to kill all the boomers and expropriate their property and land. if we don't, the assets will be consumed and diluted into the system and redistributed to foreign invaders
what's crazy is i think a lot of young people understand this. somebody running for political office on a platform of "we literally just need to kill all of the boomers" would get like 90% of the under-40 vote

Oh, and on the literature front -- man, didn't you get *tired* of Updike and Cheever, Mailer and Wolfe and McMurtry and Bellow? I *knew* those people, or lives like theirs, and I, for one, found African-, Asian-, and Caribbean writing *much* more interesting.

All of these right-wing DEI gripes seem to me to miss a pretty basic premise of how hiring works, namely, the vast majority of people who apply for positions do not get them. It's almost like—crazy concept here—because job markets are based on competition, there's winners and losers, and most of the time one is a loser! Especially in creative and academic fields (I've worked in both) there's very few positions and hundreds, sometimes thousands of applicants for one position. Merely being qualified for a job does not mean you get it. To put the point differently: hiring is always in some way or other "discriminatory," and I take it the goal of DEI initiatives, whatever effect they had (I also suspect it was relatively inconsequential), was to help eliminate some of the very egregious and troubling forms of discrimination.

There is so much to unpack here, this sixty-something white guy doesn't know where to start. I'll begin by saying that this is a rationalization for a generation of men who have done a great deal to seal their own fate. It also reflects something that goes beyond younger white males, for we have become a spoiled, selfish, entitled, lazy nation overall and this cohort may be the worst of the lot.
The world does not revolve around white American men, much as white American men like to think so. Are there white men who have gotten the muddy end of the stick? Undoubtedly, and that's not fair. But to suggest that that tiny number comes even remotely close to the unfair treatment still levied upon non-whites, women, the poor, the Third World, non-heterosexuals and other minorities is beyond ludicrous.

I’m a parent of one of these young white men. Growing up and working toward my career, I fought hard, kept going and did not allow any set back to stop me from eventually getting the career I wanted, and later job after job. Hard work, smart work, grit.
In my son’s cohort, I don’t see that. They give up too easy and are quick to blame others.
You have to work hard and keep at it. Nothing is ever handed to you.
I hire and work with young people. Both the men and women are smart and talented and do good work, but there is a fire in the women that reminds me of what it takes to achieve things. They also seek advice a lot more than the men, and follow it. They look for mentors and they network. They’re going places.
The men can do the same thing.

“ Nothing is ever handed to you.”
Except for URMs and Women with Fake Jobs imo.
Also these zoomers definitely give up easy af because they see how much their Gen X parents benefitted from biting the bullet for 30 years.

I am a white man in my 50s. Did not finish college did horribly in high school so I went to work in construction and 35 years later I have three homes , I own the shop I work out of and my wife and me will retire comfortably. I live in a house in a great neighborhood that is in a college town. There is a rental next door to me. A new owner let white students rent it out and it was a disaster. Instead of studying they turned the house into an underage bar so they could make some money. After some law and town intervention we got them out and since then we have had asian students occupying the house. Have not heard a peep from them because they are to busy studying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't see women going out and shooting up kindergarteners when they get passed over for jobs and dates. Young white men, raised by their shoutty dads and loud media, raised them on stories where men are always the hero, never the helper in a shared society. When hard times fall - as they are falling now on most people in the world right now, not just young men - these individualists don't know how to look around and recognize they aren't the only one suffering, because in their minds, they are all alone. Comes down to problematic Daddy-Boy issues, the way men raise their sons with yelling back slaps instead of hugs and affection. Or known by its other name, Patriarchy. If men don't get validation from their dads for anything but winning and standing out, you end up with sore losers who want to be on tv, even for all the wrong reasons. The pathetic examples of thin skinned men bent on retribution and punishment set at our highest levels of government and finance right now don't help either. Again, it's all about craving male valudation. For what exactly? So someone, even a stranger in the manosphere, will tell you you're a really Good Boy? Like a dog? As a woman it's hard to imagine being this immature well into adulthood. Reality check: look around you, bro, the world is on fire, women too can't get jobs or find housing, it ain't just you bro. And contrary to popular opinion most women aren't supported by men either. Their lives are no easier than yours. Get over yoself.

Back in my day I worked hard, kept my head down, and didnt expect handouts. Bought my first house at 24 on one salary, paid it off early, and still had enough left over for a little boat that turned into a yacht. Meanwhile Gen Z is out here dropping a thousand bucks on a Nintendo Switch 2 that doesnt even have any games, then crying they cant afford a home. Priorities, folks.
