i bought a very nice replica daytona for $800 a couple years ago and sold it for $700 recently. |

The professional models, especially the Sub/GMT/Daytona/Yachtmaster are the most desirable right now.
Other models like the datejust or day-date can be desirable based on their configuration.
Then you have models like the explorer, milgaus, air king and sea-dweller that appeal to a very specific buyer.

Almost all rolexes will have ebay authenticity guaranty. Then take it to a watch store where they can open it up to confirm authenticity and check the water resistance. There's still some risk they won't catch a superclone, but if you buy an older model used 36mm datejust with some scratches, it's pretty unlikely to be a fake when a scammer could make a lot more selling a fake new model sub.
