Teenager found shot to death in vehicle at Cordova parking lot
A teenager was found shot to death inside a vehicle at a Cordova strip mall parking lot Friday, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Antonio Sykes, Jr.
At 5:40 p.m., deputies found a man with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle parked outside a smoke shop in the 1900 block of Berryhill Road.
They said he was pronounced dead on the scene by Shelby County Fire paramedics.
Witnesses told WREG that they could see his legs hanging out of the car and said they heard at least three to five gunshots.
The sheriff’s office said traffic is open on Berryhill Road, and they do not expect any traffic problems for the football game at Cordova High School.
“We work in a salon across from where the thing happened. And we got a phone call. They, they heard something had just happened. So I did a walk over before the scene got too busy. And I didn’t get to see who was harmed, but I saw the vehicle, and the emotions just got to wake me up,” said Owner Michelle Seymour of Crazy About Hair Salon business in the strip mall.
According to the SCSO, there are no suspects in custody, and this is an ongoing investigation.
